While a lot of people think that the only way to get through pain is to push it to the side and pretend it’s not present at all, that’s only going to make things worse. If you’re trying to heal, you need to do it properly, and bottling won’t ever allow for healing on any level.

Coping mechanisms are only useful if they help you to heal through their use. If your means of coping is only forcing you to push things under the rug and pretend everything is fine, you’re not coping properly. While you might not want to feel the things you’re feeling, embracing them is the only way through them.

Hiding your emotions isn’t going to make you feel better, and you need to realize that on a core level. Sure, it might let you feel normal for a few minutes here and there, but once reality hits again you’ll be right back where you started. You must go through these emotions if you ever want to be able to get over them and move on from them to a better place in your life.

Whether you’re heartbroken over an ex, grieving the loss of a close friend or family member, or even just stressed to the max from life itself, you need to work to understand the feelings before you. Locking them inside is only going to make you feel worse and leave you wondering how to stop the pain you’re feeling inside.

Numbing things won’t do you any good. Allow yourself to feel and give yourself time to let these emotions really sink in. You must feel things properly if you ever want to get through them, that you need to be sure you’re letting sink in. Meditation is something that will benefit you in a huge way when it comes to working through the tension within your being.

There is nothing wrong with crying and letting things out, the more you express the things you’re feeling, the more capable you will become of moving on from them and really coming to terms with yourself and where you are in your life. Don’t be ashamed of the state you’re in, you are making progress every single day above all else.
