We always hear the terms ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’ being thrown around, oftentimes as if they were the same thing. However, they aren’t and there is an important reason why.

Fate and destiny are nowhere near the same thing. They are very different from one another and while most people don’t see these differences, everyone needs to try and become as aware of them as they possibly can. Below, I am going to go over both fate and destiny in the hopes of helping you really grasp their uniqueness.

Fate

Fate is something that is completely out of our control. Basically, no matter what happens in life or how hard we work, we cannot change the way things are ‘meant’ to be. Whatever happens in life is something that could not be avoided in any way. Fate is not always as positive as people seem to make it out to be.

Destiny

Now, destiny, on the other hand, is something we can alter slightly. We choose to make steps towards fulfilling our destiny and if we choose to do nothing, we refuse our own destiny. Basically, your destiny is something meant for you and in that it is something you can alter to your likings. While I know this might seem a bit confusing, I hope it is understandable.

The Difference

Fate cannot be changed, and destiny in many ways can be changed. Destiny is something you are meant to do and fate is something that happens or is done whether you want to opt out or not. Fate is what happens when you let the outside world have control over your being, and destiny is when you have your own control over your being. While they are both similar in many ways, they are not the same thing.

While some people like to believe in fate and others destiny (or perhaps both) there is nothing wrong with learning about the other. Fulfilling your destiny will make you much happier than living true to your fate. While you shouldn’t force yourself into it, you should be open to it.

If you want to fulfill your destiny, all you have to do is be the best you that you can be. Create your own goals, move out of your comfort zone, and really work to understand who you are. Life is too short to spend it thinking fate is in control of all that you do.

I know, easier said than done, right?  Did you already know these things, or have you learned something new?
