Getting to hang out with your grandma was always the best growing up; however, it seems this was benefiting her health as well! Who knew we were actually increasing her lifespan by learning all her wonderful recipes!

According to a study done by the University of California, proper companionship can and will help extend and improve the quality of life for the elderly. This study was conducted by researching a group of 1,600 adults with the average age being 71. It was found that isolation and loneliness hit much harder when we are older than when we are younger.

The adults in this study who were lonely held higher mortality rates than those who were not lonely. This meaning the older you are the more important companionship is. This in a sense makes senior homes sound like a good idea as in these homes these older people are able to gain friendships. They are able to mingle, make friends, and thrive.

If you have any older relatives in your life try paying them a visit from time to time, it might help keep them around a lot longer. No one likes being lonely, and we should all do our best to make sure the people around us are happy. Try giving grandma a call at least once a week and see how much brighter she is. Just because they are old doesn’t make them any less human.
