While you might not always be capable of seeing it, happiness isn’t as complex as we make it out to be. It can be big things like getting promotions at work or it can be small things like being able to celebrate life with the people who matter the most to you.

Happiness for each of us is different but manifests in similar ways. If you’re unhappy then chances are you’re taking for granted the things before you and the opportunities in your life. If you really want to make the most out of yourself you have to try hard to let go of toxicity as a whole.

Toxicity can and will hold you back from happiness. Below I am going to go over some things that might be holding you back from accepting the happiness before you. Sure, you’ve created it and it’s waiting for you but until you accept it, you won’t be able to put it to use in your life.

7 Things That Hold You Back From Truly Accepting Happiness In Life:

1. Fear

Fear is something that holds us back in big ways. If you’re truly afraid of letting happiness in then you’re not going to be happy. You need to overcome this fear and really work to accept that you deserve better.

2. Unresolved Trauma

The things we go through in life can really close us off from the things we need. If you’re unhappy and also dealing with unresolved trauma healing might be your best bet. I know, that’s easier said than done but it could make a huge difference.

3. Comparisons

You’ll never be happy if you’re constantly comparing yourself to everyone else. You are you and they are who they are, it’s that simple. You’re never going to be able to turn yourself into someone you’re not. The grass is not always greener on the other side, I promise.

4. Ignoring Problems

The more you ignore your problems the more stressed you’re going to become in the long-run. If you want to be happy you need to work through this kind of thing. Ignoring only makes it worse.

5. Making Excuses

The more you make excuses for the people around you and the things you’re going through the less happy you’ll be. You need to own up to the things around you and work to better yourself. Progress cannot and will not be made otherwise.

6. A Need For Control

If you feel like you’re struggling to keep in control you might also struggle to remain upbeat. Happiness cannot be found when you’re fighting like this. If you want to be happy you’ve got to let go of that need for control.

7. Refusing To Be Mindful

Being mindful is important. The more in the moment you are the better. Life is complicated and unpredictable. Tomorrow is never promised.
