While Matthew McConaughey is an amazing actor a lot of people don’t really realize just how truly inspirational he is as himself, overall. Sure, he’s got a nice face and a great body, but he is so much more than those things.
I recently came across a video showcasing a speech he had made awhile back that really blew me away. While it might not resonate with everyone, it will reveal to them just how truly inspirational McConaughey is. During this speech, he goes over quite a few different things. He covers cause and effect as well as just how hard life truly can be.
One of the things that really stuck with me after really listening to this speech was when he said as follows:
“Happiness demands a certain outcome. It is result reliant, and I say if happiness is what you’re after then you’re gonna be let down frequently and you’re gonna be unhappy much of your time.
Joy, though.
Joy’s a different thing. It’s something else. Joy is not a choice. It’s not a response to some result. It’s a constant.
Joy is the feeling that we have from doing what we are fashioned to do. No matter the outcome.”
We as human beings tend to seek out happiness whether we realize it or not and the truth is, happiness is not as simple as we want it to be. We have to be willing to find joy in small things. If we don’t stop to smell the roses, we will spend a lot of time unhappy as McConaughey insinuated. Life will never be as clear cut as we would hope for it to be and the sooner we accept that the better.
If you really want to have your life going in a manner that will leave you fulfilled, you have to be willing to make things work. You have to remove yourself from the picture and then look back to see what is left before diving back in. Success is what we make it, period.

He has accomplished so much in his life and is able to live with a sense of passion that you do not often see in this day and age. Have you ever stopped to really consider where you were in this world and where you were headed? While you might not be where you want to be right now, you are capable of so much. Life is never what it seems and you can turn things into whatever you want to if you’re willing to really work hard, focus on your own wellbeing, and enrich your life as best you can.
