On March 19th there will be an equinox and with that energies are going to be coming to the surface that we don’t normally see. These energies will create a sense of balance for us all but we must be willing to put them to work.

We have for a very long time celebrated things like equinoxes and solstices. They are naturally occuring seasonal cycles and when we tune into them we gain a lot more than most realize. As we move towards the March equinox we are getting closer to Mother Nature herself and through performing rituals and embracing these energies we are able to truly align.

Now on a scientific note what happens on the equinox can be explained as such:

Earth’s axis is tilted at an angle of about 23.4° in relation to the ecliptic plane, the imaginary plane created by the Earth’s path around the Sun. On any other day of the year, either the Southern Hemisphere or the Northern Hemisphere tilts a little towards the Sun. But on the two equinoxes, the tilt of the Earth’s axis is perpendicular to the Sun’s rays, like the illustration shows.

However, when you look at things on a spiritual level we are being brought to a place of balance and able to find our inner voice more properly. You see the equinox allows us to sit on the boundaries of both light and dark. This bringing us to question more and work to understand our soul itself on a deeper level.

Natalia Kuna wrote as follows about this event on her website:

The significance for Spring is that daylight starts to increase, so the earth is about to tip over to more LIGHT, like an illuminating, sublime reminder that light is returning and always does, to earth. Therefore, the Spring equinox represents new light and life, new beginnings, seeds, and paths. In fact, the spring equinox used to be considered the new year in many parts of Europe until the middle of the 18th century.

There was also a connection to Eostre, the Goddess of Dawn / East. Easter as a holiday also has that sense of fertility, with the depiction often of hares and eggs as a symbol of birth and fertility, new life, babies, creation and so on (hence easter eggs).

In ancient times rituals were performed at the moment of alignment and people would cleanse old energy out as well as in their homes, temples, etc. This is where our tradition of ‘spring cleaning’ came from! So you see how reclaiming the sacred ways and mindset past brings us closer to both the Great Spirit as well as a closer truth.

Just as the length of day and night is equal, this time represents our own need for a balance of the yin/yang and male/female energies. Balanced equilibrium as the ideal state for our lives.

It is a time of renewal, new beginnings of life and growth blooming gloriously and ushering in a renewed sense of energy brought in to help you focus and move forward in new, fresh, positive ways.

Now, if you want to perform a ritual for yourself during this time all you need to do is gather a few simple things and put your personal energies to work. Below I am going to add in one of my favorites and if you want to get started it’s a good ritual to work with. Through this, you can embrace the energies headed your way without allowing them to overwhelm your being.

March Solstice Cleansing And Renewing Ritual:

Things Needed:

A bowl of water

Pen and paper

Several candles

A small shovel

Directions:

Find yourself a nice place outside to do your ritual. I suggest a homely place in nature where you can dig a small hole. Once you’ve chosen your place set your candles out and your bowl of water down.

Light the candles and invite the energies before you to work in your favor. Thank Mother Nature for all she does and dig your small hole. Meditate for a moment and see this hole as something similar to a womb. This is where you’re going to plant your thoughts for the future and what you intend to have coming forth in the months headed your way.

Write down on the paper what you desire the most and where you want to be. Really bring to life anything you want with all of your heart and place that paper into the bowl. You will notice that this has distorted the writing as the paper got wet but the message within is still present on your heart.

Place that paper still wet into the hole that you dug and bury it with in the Earth. Once buried pour the water over it and close things out properly. Thank Mother Nature again for all she does and will continue to do then go celebrate properly. Yes, it’s that simple.
