Lucid dreaming is something a lot of people want to do but very few actually can. It is something that people tend to work very hard at accomplishing but overall, is not something that comes easily.

For those who do not know, lucid dreaming is basically the ability to control one’s dream. When you are lucid dreaming you are aware that you are dreaming within the dream and thus about to take things into your own hands. It is an amazing thing and well, it’s not as simple as we might wish it was.

Healthline wrote as follows going more in-depth on all of this:

When you sleep, your brain cycles through rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and non-REM sleep.

Non-REM sleep includes three separate stages. During non-REM, your brain waves, heartbeat, and eye movements gradually slow down.

In REM sleep, your brain is extremely active. Your heart rate and eye movements also increase.

Lucid dreaming, like most dreams, usually happens during REM sleep.

In a lucid dream, you know that you’re dreaming. You’re aware of your awareness during the dream state.

About 55 percent of people have experienced one or more lucid dreams in their lifetime. However, frequent lucid dreaming is rare. Only 23 percent of people have lucid dreams at least once a month.

Now, if you want to lucid dream yourself, there are techniques you can try that are supposed to help with that. For one, you can test your reality anytime you feel you may be dreaming. The more you do this the more of a habit you will get into for doing it and then on occasion, you may find that you’re actually doing it while being asleep and in your dream state. Ask yourself if you’re dreaming, pinch yourself, and consider how you’re reacting with things before coming to your own conclusion.

Now, if that isn’t working you could also do something known as WILD or wake-initiated lucid dreaming. This isn’t easy and well, it’s quite complex and hard to get the hang of. Through doing this you basically spend time lying down in bed before you fall asleep thinking about what it is you want to dream about and where you want to end up. This will in some cases help you insert yourself right where you feel you should be in your dream world.
