Our belly button is a powerful and marvelous thing. While we might not all like our belly buttons as they can come in all shapes and sizes, we have them for a reason.

When we are being formed within the tummies of our mothers, we are nourished through our belly buttons as that is where the placenta is connected. This is what gives us all we need and for the time we are within our mother’s bellies, it is essential. Without it, we would not necessarily be possible in that sense.

Now, once we are born and the cord is cut our belly buttons are left behind and while we do clean them when we shower, we don’t tend to think much of them outside of that. For those who might not know behind your belly button in itself is a gland known as the Pechoti gland. This gland is one that many believe you can use to your advantage in life as you continue to age.

The act of using the Pechoti gland to benefit your health is known as the Pechoti Method and it’s quite interesting whether you think it works or not. This concept is basically one that suggests you can absorb things like essential oils through your belly button and massage them into the gland itself. Basically giving yourself some of the things you may need through the same means your mother did when you were still within her womb.

Healthline wrote as follows on this interesting method:

The Pechoti method comes from Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda is an ancient medicinal practice that originated in India. It focuses on connections between physical and spiritual health.

But there’s no clinical evidence to support the existence of the Pechoti gland or any other part of your anatomy that lets you absorb oils through your belly button.

2014 reviewTrusted Source of research on Ayurvedic medicine found that there was only one scientific study of Ayurvedic medicine out of a collection of more than 7,000 studies.

Almost no research has been done since then. But that doesn’t mean that myths about the Pechoti method haven’t spread.

This meaning that while a lot of people seem to think this is something that works wonders, the science behind it is lacking. While giving it a go might be something you’re interested in, you shouldn’t expect this kind of thing to work for everyone. What you find useful others may not.

That being said, there is no harm in putting oils in your belly button as long as you’re going about things the right way. Don’t press too hard and make sure you’re not using oils you’re allergic to before diving into things. Use tiny amounts and if you’re noticing irritation do not continue.

Below I am going to go over some of the different oils and things that tend to be used during this method and what they are supposed to help with:

Tea Tree Oil – Inflammation

Neem Oil – Hair and Skin Health

Ginger Oil – Nausea

CBD Oil – Pain

Peppermint Oil – Gut Issues

Lavender Oil – Stress

Sandalwood – Calm Nerves/Relieve Concentration Issues
