This world we live in is full of toxic people. Society as a whole breeds toxicity on a scale that is something that in the past we were not as able to see so clearly.

In this day and age, most of us have toxic people in our lives and while we should be cutting ties with those toxic people, oftentimes we don’t. If you’re having trouble deciding who is toxic in your life and who isn’t you have come to the right place. Toxic people are those who hold us back and don’t really care about us in the ways we care for them. They can be friends, family members, or even romantic partners depending on your situation.

If someone is making you unhappy, always asking you to do things for them without offering anything in return, and putting you in situations you don’t want to be in they are toxic, period. They create a connection with you that serves no purpose for you and all the purpose for them.

If you’re walking on eggshells around someone, unable to communicate with them properly, and feel like you’re being controlled then you should be able to realize that the person causing this is toxic in your life. Cutting ties and contact completely is almost always the best route when it comes to these kinds of people however if it’s a coworker or someone you still have to be around sometimes limiting interactions drastically can help. The less you have to deal with them the better and you don’t owe them any kind of explanation in regards.

Once you’ve managed to do that and are no longer feeding into the toxicity that comes with those people you will begin to see things in a new light and from there can work to surround yourself with more positive people. Find those who nurture you and put forth the same amount of effort that you do to make the connection itself work. If they don’t help you grow and you don’t enjoy being around them, stop wasting your time.

You will be able to tell relatively quickly whether someone is willing to help support you properly. These people will be the ones you can trust, they won’t go airing your dirty laundry to other people and will be as reliable to you as you are to them. Sure, you might think finding these people would be easy but it’s sometimes more complicated than it should be.

That having been said if you set proper boundaries and stand your ground only those who are meant to be in your life will come forth. Be confident in what you deserve and don’t settle in life for people who are not going to help you become a better version of yourself. Know your worth and everything else will sort itself out in time.

Toxic people do not deserve a place in our lives and the sooner we come to terms with that the better. We are all deserving of proper connections. If you surround yourself with the right people things will improve for you in this life, dramatically.
