Some kinds of Cottonelle flushable wipes have been recalled. This is because of a potential contamination that has to do with bacteria and well, we all need to know about it.

According to CNN some of these products were found to be contaminated by a bacteria that in some people can cause infection. This recall is one that was sent out to protect those who use these products from this, and the bacteria in question is known as pluralibacter gergoviae. If someone is immunocompromised, it can be very serious when they come in contact with it.

When it comes to Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle Flushable Wipes GentlePlus (the only two affected by this) lot numbers should be checked and anything produced between February 7th and September 14th of 2020 should not be used. This recall from Kimberly-Clark is one that might not really be as serious as it sounds but it can be dangerous.

According to ABC News complaints regarding these wipes in general at the moment are much lower than you’d expect and those bothered seem to be only experiencing irritation or minor infections. If you have noticed something in your household that is between the dates above and one of the two types noted, you can click here to search the lot number and get more information. That site explains a lot more about all of this and you’re welcome to read through it.

NBC News wrote as follows on this recall:

The bacteria detected in the affected packages of Cottonelle wipes is pluralibacter gergoviae, a pathogen naturally occurring in the environment and human body.

“Pluralibacter gergoviae rarely causes serious infections in healthy individuals,” Kimberly-Clark said. “However, individuals with weakened immune systems are at a heightened risk of infection.”

The company said that as of Thursday morning, there was a low rate of “non-serious complaints,” including reported symptoms like irritation and minor infections. Affected individuals were advised to discontinue using the product and seek medical help if they experienced symptoms.

This kind of thing is bound to happen from time to time, and we shouldn’t be panicking but awareness is very important moving forward.
