As you may have noticed Leonardo DiCaprio is a huge figure when it comes to doing right by our planet. He has donated lots of money to preserve what is left of Mother Nature and even now brings awareness to enormous issues.
While DiCaprio has put himself out there to make the issues in the Amazon known and work to put these fires out, it seems there are many who oppose him and some who are willing to accuse him of some pretty mind-blowing things. According to the President of Brazil who has been in the red zone for quite some time (when it comes to the blame for these fires in general) has recently accused DiCaprio himself of being the mad-man behind them all. According to CNN, this claim came from a Facebook live video/webcast during which President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro argued that NGOs were contributing to these fires and uttering something along the lines of “Leonardo DiCaprio, you are assisting with the burning of the Amazon, that can’t be.”
From there he also said just days later something like “Leonardo DiCaprio is a great guy, isn’t he? Donating money to set the Amazon on fire.” These are accusations we from the get-go assumed DiCaprio would not take lightly. DiCaprio’s statement in regards is quite to the point and makes things apparent to all who read it.
DiCaprio posted as follows to his Instagram as a statement in regards to these accusations:
“At this time of crisis for the Amazon, I support the people of Brazil working to save their natural and cultural heritage. They are an amazing, moving and humbling example of the commitment and passion needed to save the environment.
The future of these irreplaceable ecosystems is at stake, and I am proud to stand with the groups protecting them. While worthy of support, we did not fund the organizations targeted.
I remain committed to supporting the Brazilian indigenous communities, local governments, scientists, educators and the general public who are working tirelessly to secure the Amazon for the future of all Brazilians.”
For those who might not be aware DiCaprio and his organization have moved mountains in regards to helping the Amazon. Just this one organization alone has pledged around five million dollars to help protect the Amazon after all that is happening is said and done. While foul play is something we all need to consider in regards to some people and some situations, it doesn’t seem DiCaprio is behind anything bad that is happening/has happened.
