As of late, it seems a US Postal Service worker was recently arrested. This worker apparently had some undelivered mail in his trunk and some of those pieces of mail were undelivered absentee ballots.

This worker was arrested in New York at the Canadian border and allegedly had three absentee ballots mailed by the Erie County Board of Elections present in his vehicle. These being just a few of the 800 pieces of mail present in ‘Brandon Wilson’s car.’ This kind of thing is not something that is taken lightly and Wilson who according to Fox News is only 27 years old was charged with delaying or destroying mail.

Fox News wrote as follows further reporting on this event:

He is accused of lying, saying the mail belonged to him and his mother, according to the complaint filed by a special agent for the Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General.

“Beginning in September 2020, Wilson estimated he placed mail from his delivery routes into the trunk of his vehicle on more than four but less than 10 instances after returning to the post office from his assigned route,” special agent Brendan M. Boone wrote in the complaint. “Wilson intended to whittle down the amount of mail in the trunk of his vehicle by placing a small amount of the mail into USPS mis sort containers in the morning before his shift began. Wilson last reintroduced mailings into the mail stream in this fashion approximately three weeks prior [to] the date of the interview.”

Wilson faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The mail present was destined for several ZIP codes and it has also been noted he ended up at the border by accident when he got in the wrong lane on I-190. Basically rather than delivering all of the mail like he was supposed to he had been placing some of it in his trunk and intended to toss smaller amounts of it into the USPS mis-sort containers before his shifts would begin each day. This all in all a very serious mistake on his part.

Some after hearing of this thought perhaps he was taking things from the mail (like cash or things of that nature) but he has denied having done that and says he was not aware there were absentee ballots in his vehicle either. Wilson had been working for the postal service since 2019 and well, it doesn’t seem anyone is too sure how long this kind of thing has been happening in regards to this specific worker. While some may think this is an overreaction at the end of the day, you cannot do this kind of thing as a mail worker and the ballots being present only added fuel to the fire that was already lit.

The NY Post reported as follows on this:

Wilson later admitted in an interview with the Postal Service Office of Inspector General that he had been taking mail from his delivery route and putting it in his car.

“Beginning in September 2020, Wilson estimated he placed mail from his delivery routes into the trunk of his vehicle on more than four but less than 10 instances after returning to the post office from his assigned route,” special agent Brendan M. Boone wrote in a report.

“Wilson intended to whittle down the amount of mail in the trunk of his vehicle by placing a small amount of the mail into USPS missort containers in the morning before his shift began. Wilson last reintroduced mailings into the mail stream in this fashion approximately three weeks prior [to] the date of the interview.”

Wilson denied knowing that he was in possession of three absentee ballots — which have become a focal point in the contentious 2020 presidential election.

What do you think about this? While we do not realize it those who handle our mail overall have a lot of power in their hands and can mess up like this drastically. Not everyone is as responsible as they should be.
