We all have moments where our minds will not let us rest. The thoughts rushing around in our heads can sometimes be a lot more damaging than we realize.

When you are stuck unable to free yourself from your own thoughts, perhaps you should work to quiet your mind. That I know might be easier said than done but you’re more than capable. The more you work to teach your mind to empty itself properly, the more manageable things will become.

Below I am going to go over some of the best tips and ‘tricks’ for quieting your mind. These come in handy when you’re full of stress or dealing with something you are unable to do anything about. I like to put them to use more often than not and they work wonders in my life.

9 Ways To Soothe Your Thoughts And Quiet Your Mind:

1. Work harder to accept the things you have no control over.

There are things in life we have no control over and at some point, we all just have to face that. You cannot keep trying to go out of your way to make things better that you could never make better in the first place. Sometimes we have to count our losses and move on.

2. Get yourself an adult coloring book and put it to work.

Adult coloring books are great for getting rid of stress and providing those who are using them with a bit of time away from their intrusive thoughts. While you’re coloring, your mind will be taken off of things in ways you might not be expecting.

3. Create counter-thoughts.

For every negative thought counter it with a positive one. This might clutter your mind more but does-so in a good way. Allow your positive thoughts to rise up and drown out the negative ones.

4. Write down all the things you’re unable to get out of your mind.

If you can’t get it out of your mind, take the time to write it out. Write until there is nothing left to write and figure things out on paper. While this might not sound like much, it helps you to put your thoughts in order and allows you to weed through what’s important and what is not.

5. Find the positive in everything you’re stressing over.

There is always a bright side to everything even if it’s a bit dim. Work hard to find that bright side in everything before you. Just because something is painful doesn’t mean you cannot learn from it.

6. Learn how to properly meditate.

Meditation will help you clear your mind as often as is needed. While most people do not meditate correctly, the more properly you end up doing it the more effective it will be. You’re not just sitting still, you’re opening up your mind to the Universe as a whole.

7. Get out and exercise, being more active will make a difference.

When my thoughts become too much for me, I go for a run. Exercise is a great way to clear your head and will help you to feel better overall. I tend to feel my best right after a nice long workout.

8. Listen to your favorite music.

Music can work wonders in our lives. The sounds of your favorite songs can and will drown out the thoughts before you even if just for a few minutes. When something is really bugging me, my favorite songs bring me to a better place in my own head.

9. Be more mindful in your everyday life.

Mindfulness is important for each of us to have. Be mindful in your everyday life and don’t obsess over the past or the future. The more present at the moment you are the happier you will become.
