As an empath or a healer, in general, it can be hard to keep up sometimes. You may find that on occasion you allow your needs to fall through the cracks.

When your needs fall behind the needs of others, you’re setting yourself up to fail. As a healer of any kind in this world, you must remember to take care of yourself. If you don’t take care of yourself, other people are going to take advantage of you and leave you overwhelmed and more drained than ever.

If you’re a healer who is struggling with putting your own needs first you should take the following tips to heart. These are going to help you learn to focus on yourself and then from there the people around you. If you aren’t taking care of yourself things will fall behind big time and you will end up unable to do anything for anyone.

6 Tips That Will Help You To Put Your Own Needs First:

1. Make time to spend on your own each day.

Sure, you spend a lot of time around other people but that doesn’t mean you should never be alone. Making time to spend on your own each day even if just a mere 30 minutes will be beneficial. This time will allow you to do things you want to do or need to do for yourself.

2. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back.

When you become overwhelmed don’t hesitate to take a break. If you need to calm down, step back and do-so. Don’t let anyone make you think that this is not an option.

3. Make sure your priorities are as they should be.

If you’re putting the needs of others above your own you need to rethink your priorities overall. Value yourself more and your well-being more. While this one is easier said than done, you can do it.

4. Learn how to say ‘no’ when you’ve got a lot on your plate.

When you have a lot going on there is nothing wrong with saying no. Just because someone wants you to do something does not mean you have to do it. You are the only person who gets to decide what happens in your life.

5. Ask yourself how you are frequently.

Your life is yours to live and you need to be sure you’re happy within it. Don’t forget to ask yourself how you are. If you’re not well, you should be the first person to spot that.

6. Stop expecting too much from yourself.
