Yoga is a powerful practice that manipulates and encourages our energy to flow in a certain way, depending on the practice you are going with. One aspect of yoga is mudras, or hand gestures that encourage energy flow and are considered a powerful tool in magic.

Mudras are hand gestures used in yoga, meditation, and magic. The word mudra means to mark or seal. According to the philosophy of mudras, our 5 fingers correspond to the 5 elements of the universe (water, earth, ether, air, and fire.) Furthermore, when we adjust our hands in certain ways, we can direct our energy to a specific purpose.

Regardless of whether you believe in their power or not, I challenge you to give them a try. While it may sound like some hippie-dippie-woo-woo stuff, there’s a lot of truth to the power of energy and our ability to use it for manifestation. Here are 5 powerful mudras to try today.

1. Gyan Mudra

This mudra is perhaps one of the most well-known and observed in pop culture. You are making the OK symbol with your hand, by touching your thumb and index fingers, leaving the rest extended. This mudra is thought to help us concentrate better, it reduces negativity, and increases creativity.

2. Prithvi Mudra

Take your ring finger and touch it to your thumb, leaving the rest extended. This mudra is thought to be helpful to our muscle, bone, and tendon health.

3. Buddhi Mudra

This one is for mental clarity and also helps us access our intuition. You can achieve it by touching your thumb to your pinky finger while continuing to hold your other fingers out.

4. Shuni Mudra

Touch your middle finger to your thumb, leaving the other fingers extended. This mudra is great for alertness, sensory issues, intuition and is also thought to purify thoughts.

5. Prana

The prana is thought to be the most powerful and important of all the mudras because it activates stagnant energy in your body. Simply touch your ring and pinky fingers to the tip of your thumb keeping the rest of your fingers out.
