Life is different for each of us but sometimes we forget to do the most important things. Whether you’re holding back too much or trying too hard you might be causing things to go off-kilter without even realizing it.

When it comes to truly living life, we need to be thankful for all we have and appreciate the moment for what it is. While there will be ups and downs, you have to remain strong and appreciate every opportunity before you as it presents itself. If you get too caught up in the future and looking for something more, you’re only going to set yourself behind in the long-run.

Below I am going to go over some of the things that we as human beings tend to forget or overlook as a whole that we should be ensuring we do as often as possible. These things keep us humble, content, and growing in all possible ways. While you might already do some of these, chances are you don’t do all of them even though you should.

1. Take care of your health.

Your health matters. If you’re not taking care of ourself no one else will be either. Your body is how you move through this world and keeping it in good shape is important. Eat right and exercise at least on a core level.

2. Be aware of your ego and do not feed into it.

Feeding into the ego only holds us back in this world. We all have a lot going on and the more we allow our ego to run free the worse off we may become. Your ego needs to always be in check no matter what.

3. Practice self-love every single day, no matter what.

Take care of yourself, always. Be sure the practice self-love no matter what it looks like for you. Whether you’re busy or not always make time for yourself.

4. Meditate as often as possible.

Meditate as often as you can but at least once a day. This can be done in the morning or at night when you get home. Through meditation, you will be able to let go of some of the stress you otherwise would be carrying with you.

5. Confront your fears as they come forth.

Rather than running away from your fears, confront them. Allow them to be worked through and overcame rather than running rampant in your life. The more afraid you are as a whole the less you will accomplish in your life.

6. Apologize when you make a mistake or hurt someone.

When we do something wrong or hurt someone apologizing is the right thing to do. While you might not be getting one in return, you should always acknowledge the things you’ve done. Whether other people acknowledge their wrongdoings or not has nothing to do with you.

7. Don’t let the thoughts and opinions of others define who you are.

Other people’s thoughts do not define who you are as a person. Just because they think you’re weird doesn’t mean you’re weird. You are the only person who can define yourself, period.

8. Take breaks when you need them.

If you need a break do not hesitate to take one. Life is too short to spend it hurting yourself overdoing things. Breaks are important and we all need them from time to time.

9. Never be ashamed of asking for help when you need it.

Sometimes you will need help and there is nothing wrong with that. We all need help every once in a while. You should not be ashamed to ask for something that you cannot go without.

10. Write out your thoughts as often as you need to.

Writing out your thoughts will help you get rid of stress and come to terms with the things you’re feeling. Whether you keep these notes intact or shred them us completely up to you. However, journaling, in general, is a great means of getting everything inside of you out.

11. Do not allow gossip or drama a place in your life.

Gossip and drama do not deserve to hold space in your life. They do nothing but bring people down and cause turmoil. You should not be feeding into these kinds of things.

12. Be honest and open with all the people you come in contact with.

The more open and honest you are with other people the more open and honest you will also be with yourself. We come in contact with tons of different kinds of people and we all need to be able to show our true selves to them. Sure, it might be a bit hard at first but it gets easier in time.

13. Cut ties with toxic people.

Toxic people do not deserve to hold space in our lives. We should never allow them to remain near once they’ve been identified. If someone is bringing you down, they need to be moved on from whether it’s hard for you or not.

14. Don’t hold grudges.

Grudges don’t do anyone any good. Holding onto the pain of your past will only leave you more hurt in the long-run. Forgive but don’t forget.

15. Expect to work hard for the things you want in life.

In this world, we all have to work very hard to get the things we want. That’s just how it is. If you think things will be handed to you, you’re sadly mistaken.
