By January 5, 2019 Mental Health

Many of us want to follow through with some kind of resolution as we move into the new year but most of us set= our standards far too high. When it comes to resolutions, starting small will get you much further than you’d think.

Before anything else, you should be looking to your mental state regarding how you should be moving forward. Instead of obsessing over your weight or other things of the sort you should be working to better your mind so that you can through that better your life as a whole. As we make plans and set goals for 2019 we should all remember to take care of our mental health.

Below I am going to go over some ‘resolutions’ that we should consider setting for the months to come. While the new year is already here we can still move forward on a positive note. These things can and will make a difference in your life.

15 Resolutions Everyone Should Set In Place For 2019 To Better Their Mental State:

1. Stop letting toxic people in your life.

If you’re wondering whether the people in your life are toxic chances are they are. You might be allowing far too many toxic people in your circle and that has to change. While it might not seem like it, the more attention you pay to the people, the more you will notice the toxicity. Toxic people should not be allowed a place in your life. If you want to move forward, you have to be in a place that cultivates exactly that.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

If you are someone that does not ask for help when you need it you need to change that. There is nothing wrong with allowing your support system to do what it is there for. The people around you who really care will be there for you when you need them the most.

3. Stop obsessing over perfection.

If you are someone that obsesses with being perfect you need to make some changes. Being perfect is not possible, the more you try the further away from it you will end up. We all at some point have to realize that perfection does not exist.

4. Have more fun, life is short.

If you are someone who spends too much time working and doing what has to be done you need to make sure the cultivate happiness. Have fun and do the things you want to do in life. We are not promised tomorrow, you could lose your life far easier than you realize.

5. Stop trying to hide from your feelings.

If you are someone who does not accept your emotions for what they are you need to work on it. Your emotions are not something that should be bottled. You need to accept them for what they are and feel them before letting them go. You cannot just ignore them, they need to be worked through.

6. Take breaks when you need them and stop overworking.

If you are someone that overworks you need to work on slowing down and taking breaks. There is nothing wrong with taking a break when you feel like one is necessary. We all need to stop and breathe sometimes.

7. Stop being so hard on yourself, cultivate patience.

If you are hard on yourself you need to try and be a little more patient and kind. Don’t be mean to yourself and nice to others. Treat yourself the way you would treat other people.

8. Set more boundaries and enforce them.

If you are struggling with boundaries you need to work on setting new ones and enforcing them. Don’t let anyone do something to you that you are not comfortable with. You matter and your boundaries should be respected.

9. Look for the lessons in life.

If you are not paying attention to the lessons before you, then you need to. You have got to slow down and put more thought into the things happening in your life. While it might not make sense at first, everything happens for a reason.

10. Stand up for yourself when it’s needed.

If you are not the kind of person to stand up for yourself this year you should work on speaking out and being yourself. Don’t let people walk all over you and really make your own needs known. Once again, you matter and should never forget that.

11. Be more mindful in your day to day life.

If you are not practicing mindfulness you need to work on it. Being more present in the moment throughout 2019 will be a huge benefit to you. This will help you to truly appreciate your life on a deeper level.

12. Stop being so quick to anger.

If you are the kind of person who is quick to anger then perhaps trying to work through some of that is necessary. We all have our moments but knowing when to remove yourself from a situation is important. Being able to resolve arguments without letting them get heated is truly a blessing.

13. Stop letting your mind run away from you.

If you are always getting carried away and forgetting what you are doing,  perhaps you need to meditate a bit more. Give yourself some time to think about things and stop allowing your mind to go in the opposite direction. Really cultivate a new mindset as best you can.

14. Work to understand yourself more properly.

If you are the kind of person that does not really know his or herself well you should work through this year as a means to really figure out who you are. We all have our own likes, dislikes, goals, and dreams. What kinds of things mean the most to you?

15. Be more present in the lives of the people who care for you.

If you are someone who tends to cut yourself off from the people you love who care for you the most perhaps you should stop and work on that. Be there for the people who want to be there for you and really spend the time that you can with them. Once again, tomorrow is not promised, we do not have as much time here on Earth as we might think we do.
