If you have a great grandpa, then you know like I do what a special relationship is held between grandfather and grandchild. It’s honestly unlike anything else in the entire world.
My grandfather has always been someone I hold dear in my heart. He has been there for me when no one else was, and honestly, I would be lost without him. As I have gotten older, I have come to realize how lucky I am to have him in my life. And I count my blessings every day that I have such a great person in my life. Here are 12 reasons why a grandfather is probably the best person in your life.
1. He lets you eat good food.
When grandma and mom both say no to the chocolate cake for breakfast, grandpa always makes sure to slip you a bite anyways. When you want french fries at the restaurant, but mom says no, he says “Oh a few won’t hurt,” and hands you a few of his when the food comes out. And he always makes sure to take you to your favorite spot when you are spending the day together.
2. He takes up for you.
Even when you probably deserve to get in trouble, your grandpa will say “Okay, okay, she understands she messed up, everyone does sometimes.” And when you are getting in trouble for something you didn’t do, and your grandpa witnesses it, he is the first to speak up on your behalf.
3. He will protect you with all his being.
And he always makes sure to let you know he’d take a bullet for you. If anyone messes with you or hurts your feelings, he’s the first one to stand up.
4. He tells the best jokes.
I don’t know about your grandpa, but mine tells the best jokes. And he always tells them at the best time. If you are ever sad, it’s likely your grandpa is going to be the first one to tell a great joke to soothe it over.
5. He’s wiser than anyone.
Since he has been around for so long, he is wiser than anyone I know. If ever I need to try to see something from a better point of view my grandfather is the first person to speak up and tell me exactly what I need to hear. It might not be what I want to hear, but what I need to hear.
6. He gives the best hugs.
For as long as I have been alive, I have always loved my grandfather’s hugs. They make me feel comforted, loved, and protected.
7. He gives the best advice.
And when I need advice- my grandfather is always the first person I turn to. His unbiased opinion is always the best. Honestly, the best decisions I have ever made are the ones I included my grandpa in.
8. He knows you because you are a part of him.
Your grandpa will always know you more than anyone. Because he raised your parents, and then helped raise you, he has a much deeper perspective of who you are.
9. He’s stern but warm.
And when you are in trouble, you can always count on him to make sure you know that you did wrong. But, not so much that it hurts your feelings or makes you feel bad.
10. He never forgets your birthday.
Without pause, a grandpa will always send a birthday card on your birthday or give you a call. He always makes sure you know that at least one person remembered your birthday.
11. Despite having other grandkids- he always keeps in touch.
And while he may have other grandkids to tend to and focus on, he always somehow stays in touch and makes time for you.
12. He might be your biggest fan.
If you ever feel like no one cares – your grandpa does. He’s pretty much your biggest fan.
