We all have our ups and downs. Sometimes you might be having a great day and others, not so much.

Living with mental illness isn’t as simple as people make it out to be. You have to know how to take care of yourself both emotionally and physically to be able to function properly. There are a lot of red flags when it comes to mental illness in general and knowing those is a big deal.

Below I am going to go over some of these red flags and what they mean. Chances are you’re aware of them all whether or not you knew what to call them. These are things you should never ignore.

10 Red Flags You Should Pay Attention To When It Comes To Your Mental Health:

1. Overanalyzing

Overanalyzing is something a lot of people struggling with mental illness do. They pick everything apart and don’t know where to go from there. While it can be a bit frustrating, you should see it as a sign that something is up.

2. Insomnia

If you’re unable to sleep because there is something keeping you up then you need to do what you should to take care of yourself. Sleep is crucial, without it we struggle to function. Chances are in situations like this your mind just won’t shut down.

3. Isolation

If you are isolating yourself you need to ask yourself why you’re doing that. Why are you cutting off those who care about you? Once you become aware of it you can work to stop it.

4. Indecisiveness

Most people don’t realize that indecisiveness is a sign of mental illness. While it can mean a lot of different things for people it tends to be linked with anxiety. If you’re unable to make decisions reevaluating your life might be best,

5. Appetite changes

Our appetites change a lot but if you’re suddenly too stressed to eat there is a problem. Don’t ignore this sign, it could turn into something worse as time goes on. While it might not seem like much, it could cause you to lose weight drastically.

Also, keep in mind some people stress eat which would mean gaining weight. It all depends on how your body responds. Some people end up better off than others.

6. Being on edge

If you’re constantly on edge there is probably something going in. Perhaps you’re face to face with a severe case of anxiety or maybe even something more. While you might want something to slow you down and make things a bit easier, it’s not that simple.

7. Focusing on the negative

When we are depressed we tend to focus on the negative. This does us no good and only feeds into things more. Paying attention to where your energy is going will help drastically.

8. Loss of interest

This one also goes hand in hand with depression. You won’t want to do any of the things you used to love to do. You will withdraw yourself from the things that matter.

9. Forgetfulness

Being forgetful is also another big sign that people often overlook. When we are stressed or going through a lot we tend to forget a bunch of things. This will make you feel like shit and only feed into the issue.

10. Reduced libido

If you notice your libido dropping out of nowhere perhaps you should look into your mental wellbeing. While it might seem like a physical issue, it is most likely something going on in your mind. The mind holds more power than you realize.
