Our lives are what we make of them. If you’re not living the life you want to live, then you need to make changes to it.

We are the only ones in charge of our lives and our choices within them. While it might not always seem like it, we are able to change the paths we are on when we truly wish to. Of course, changing direction isn’t easy and requires a lot of work sometimes, but it is worth it.

No one is going to come into your life and hand you the things you want or even the things you need. You have to be willing to put yourself out there and improve yourself if you want to improve your life. While big changes are important if you start with these seven small changes, your life will improve more than you could ever imagine.

7 Things You Need To Stop Doing If You Want To Improve Your Life:

1. Stop letting people walk all over you.

The people in your life should not be in control of the things you do or how your life plays out, point-blank. Take back your power and stop being a punching bag for everyone else. You don’t have to keep saying yes when you want to say no.

2. Stop letting the past determine your future.

The past is not something you can change and moving on from it is important for moving forward. The more you dwell on the past the further behind you’re going to be dragged. Your future should be something you look forward to not something you dread. Your past does not define you, period.

3. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else.

We are all different in our own ways. You should never compare yourself to anyone else. We all have our own problems going on, just because you cannot see them does not mean they are not present in our lives.

4. Stop worrying about things you cannot control.

There are things in this life that we have no say in and no control over. Those things should not be holding power in our lives. If you cannot control it, let go of it and stop feeding into it.

5. Stop doing things you don’t want to do.

In this world, there are very few things we actually have to do. If you don’t want to go see someone then don’t go see them and if you want to spend more time doing something specific then do it. You’re the only one holding yourself back, you know that right?

6. Stop making excuses and put yourself out there.

The more you make excuses the further behind you will get. Everyone else is moving forward and trying to make the most of their time here, why aren’t you? Excuses are doing you no favors.

7. Stop putting your own needs last.

Your needs matter and you need to keep that in mind moving forward. If you don’t take care of yourself you can’t take care of anyone else. You are someone who deserves care and who better to offer it to you than yourself?
