While we as parents want to protect our kids as best we can, sometimes we have to let them fall on their own. Sure, we want to pick them up and make everything go away but sometimes doing that puts the wrong ideas in their heads.
As good parents, we need to make sure our kids know that they are the ones responsible for their actions. When they get out into the real world, if they hurt others they will have to face the consequences and so forth. No, we don’t have to make them do everything alone, but we do have to make sure they are able to stand on their own above all else.
Below I am going to go over some tips that can help us all accomplish exactly that. Sure, seeing them struggle from time to time might be hard but it’s a part of life. We can only do so much.
5 Tip That Will Help You Raise Responsible Children:
1. Let them make mistakes and go over the results of those mistakes without yelling/breaking them down.
We are all human and your kids are going to make mistakes, period. When they do, instead of blowing up sit down with them and talk things through. Let them learn their lessons in this sense and from their help them think of a means to make things right.
2. Teach them empathy and compassion.
From a young age teach your kids that we should care for other people. Help them understand that other people hurt in the same ways they do depending on the situation and that not everyone is as fortunate as they are. This is one of the most important things on this list.
3. Give them roles within the family.
Don’t just let them do whatever, give them set chores. While they’re not going to want to do those chores, make sure they do them. Sure, sometimes you could give in and let them pass things up but overall make sure they have their roles within the family.
4. Always let them help when they want to even if it might make things a little more complicated.
When they ask to help you do something, let them. This is their way of learning and being there to support you. Sure, your small child cleaning windows might not make much of a difference when it comes to getting the windows clean but it makes a big impact on their minds.
5. Be a good role model for your kids overall.
Be the person you want your kids to be. Show them that you’re a strong compassionate person who works hard but also makes mistakes and owns up to those mistakes. This is something a lot of people forget to do.
