When it comes to having a long-lasting relationship, you have to be willing to do things that you otherwise might not do. Compromising and being there for one another properly is crucial to really making things work.
Love is not easy, it is full of hard times and will pull you through a lot of ups and downs. When you’re with the right person, being in love is going to be easier, but that doesn’t mean it will be ‘easy’ as a whole. You will still struggle sometimes, and you will both have your own problems to deal with.
Below, I am going to go over some hard truths that we all have to accept when it comes to love. If you never accept these things your relationship will not last but if you’re willing to let these really sink in, you’ll be able to find proper footing in ways you never imagined. Love is not what everyone makes it out to be, and understanding that is a big deal for us all.
You Must Accept These 12 Hard Truths If You Want Your Relationship To Last:
1. Love can fall apart just like everything else in this life.
Just like everything else in this world love can fall apart. You and the person you’re with have to be willing to work towards loving each other more as time passes to keep things going. Falling out of love is very possible even though some people will try to tell you otherwise.
2. The perfect relationship does not exist.
There is no such thing as a perfect relationship. We all have our own issues and will face ups and downs. There is never going to be a moment in your romantic life that you think perfection is something you’ve found, period.
3. Love isn’t always what we expect for it to be.
Sometimes what we think love is actually isn’t what love is at all. We have to be willing to work through our own definitions of things like this to find what true meaning is hiding inside. Love is so much more than what we tend to chalk it up as.
4. You have to be patient when you’re in love, it doesn’t prevent you from getting upset or frustrated.
Just because you’re in love doesn’t mean you’re no longer going to be capable of being frustrated with the person you’re dating. You’re still going to have to be patient and caring regarding one another. Again, no relationship is perfect, you’re going to have your struggles, and you’re going to get on one another’s nerves.
5. You’re not the same person or extension of one another, you’re a team.
When you’re in love you might feel like you and your partner are connected on a very intense level, but that doesn’t mean you’re the same person. You’re still separate beings moving through this world on your own, but together. You’re a team, not the same person.
6. Just because someone loves you doesn’t mean they won’t hurt you.
Just because you love someone does not mean they are not going to hurt you. We hurt people we care about all the time. That is just how life is.
7. Just because you’re in love doesn’t mean you’re always going to be happy.
You might be in love, but that doesn’t mean you’re never going to be sad or upset again. We all get sad, and we all have our hard moments in life. This with someone by your side is easier but it still sucks all the while.
8. Being together doesn’t mean you should never spend time apart.
When you’re in love you might be head over heels and want to spend a lot of time together but that doesn’t mean you should spend every waking moment with one another. You still need to take time for yourself. Spending time apart doesn’t mean you’re no longer in love, it means you can function on your own.
9. Sometimes love isn’t enough.
Love is not always enough to make things work. Sometimes we find ourselves on different paths than the people we care for. In this case, being able to work through it or end things is important. Not every connection is meant to last forever. Being able to understand this will set you up to fall into something that can and will last though if applied to your life properly.
10. Mistakes will be made by you and your partner, they are not avoidable.
You and your partner are going to make mistakes, you’re both only human. Just because you love one another doesn’t mean you have everything figured out. Being able to forgive and forget is crucial.
11. Just because you’re dating doesn’t mean you have to always agree with one another.
You and your partner are going to get into fights, and sometimes you’re going to have to agree to disagree and move on. Not everything that happens has to be agreed upon. Sometimes you’re just going to have to work through things in the best ways that you can.
12. Allowing your partner to walk all over you is not a representation of your loyalty.
You and your partner need to make sure you’re both taken care of. If you’re being walked all over you’re not showing how loyal you are, you’re letting your partner take advantage of you. This you should bring up and fix quickly, otherwise issues will grow.
