When it comes to life as a whole and how we move through this world, we’re all doing our own things. There will always be serious ups and serious downs, however, the way you deal with those things makes all the difference in the world.
We all have moments where we feel like giving up, or we think we’re so lost and broken that we’re going to shut down entirely. That having been said, despite the odds we always make it out, we always pick things up and piece them back together. That is something that makes us truly amazing.
If you’re going through a hard time or you’re down and out about something you don’t need to bottle your emotions inside and let them swell up until you explode. Below you will find a list of things you can and should consider doing when you’re at your worst. These things will help you process on a deeper more efficient level and place you in a much better mindset.
23 Things You Should Consider Doing When You Feel Like Giving Up:
1. Take a walk.
Walking is a good way to clear your mind. This will allow you to think about things for a little while and really put yourself in a better headspace. Being in nature always works wonders.
2. Ask for help if you need it.
Don’t be afraid to ask the people around you for help. There is nothing wrong with needs assistance from time to time. We are all human and sometimes we need a hand, the sooner you ask the sooner you can get things done.
3. Stop comparing yourself to other people.
You should never compare yourself to other people. We are all unique in our own ways. No one on this planet is perfect no matter how amazing you think they are. We all have our faults, period.
4. Stop saying ‘yes’ when you want to say ‘no.’
If you don’t want to do something or if you have too much on your plate already, do not agree to it. There is nothing wrong with saying ‘no’ sometimes. You are not a robot or a toy, you have your own issues to worry about and things to deal with.
5. Come up with a plan and a backup plan.
If you’re struggling to figure out how to move forth take some time to come up with a proper plan and then also a backup to fall on if things go south. This will put your mind at ease big time and leave you able to focus on other things. Life is not always as complicated as we make it out to be.
6. Have a good cry.
If there is too much going on and you’re bottling up too many emotions take some time for yourself. Give yourself a bit of alone time and have a good cry. There is nothing wrong with expressing what you’re feeling inside externally.
7. Take a nap.
Sometimes a nap can cure everything. If you’re exhausted and doing too much for the people in your life you might need to give yourself a moment to relax. Go lie down and have a little rest, it will do you a lot more good than you think.
8. Look at all you already have, be grateful.
When you’re feeling as if things are becoming too much and you’re unable to achieve all you want, look at all you have now. You have more than some people and you’re surrounded by people who care about you. Be grateful and appreciate the things you have before you.
9. Spend time with your pets.
When you’re worked up and feeling like nothing is bringing happiness to your life you need some time with your pets or perhaps the pets of someone else. If you have a dog or something else of the sort plan a day for just you to spend with him/her. This will enrich you more than you could ever imagine and if you’re unable to have pets and don’t have friends with pets, visit an animal shelter and spend some time with the animals there. Most shelters will let you go outside and play with their animals or even take them for walks.
10. Give yourself a break.
If you’re doing a lot and unable to find time for yourself you need a break. Take a break and allow yourself time to clear your thoughts properly. Just sit and relax, don’t let the things you’re going through take over this moment.
11. Let go of unrealistic expectations.
If your goals are unrealistic and you’re holding yourself to expectations that are far too high for anyone, you’re only going to let yourself down. We are only human and if you’re doing you’re best then you’re doing a great job. Your best efforts are good enough, point-blank.
12. Write it out.
Take some time to write out what you’re going through. Get everything out on paper and then shred it. This will allow you to vent without having to worry about someone else hearing or seeing.
13. Talk to someone you trust.
If you have someone you can trust, talk to them. They are your support system for a reason. They will hear you out and in most situations offer good advice.
14. Meditate as often as possible.
Meditation is a great means of letting go of stress. If you’re unable to calm yourself and you feel drained, you need to meditate. Ground yourself and find your center, the things you’re facing in your life will pass before you know it.
15. Stop expecting things to happen for you, make more of an effort.
Things in this world don’t just happen for us, we have to make them happen. Put forth more effort if you feel like you’re not trying hard enough. Sometimes that extra bit of effort makes all the difference in the world.
16. Make time for your hobbies.
Take time out of your day to enjoy certain things. Find things you love and partake. Don’t spend all your time working and not having any fun.
17. Stop being afraid to change course.
Stop being scared to change the direction your life is going in. Nothing in this world is set in stone. The direction you’re going might not be the direction you end up once all is said and done.
18. Stop pretending your problems don’t exist, face them.
We all have problems and the more you ignore yours the worse they will become. Work through them and stop being so terrified. Life is not going to hold off just because you’re nervous about something.
19. Get out and about.
Spend some time with people that make you happy. Go out and have some fun. Allow your mind to drift elsewhere even if just for the night.
20. Cut ties with people who don’t help you grow.
Stop letting people who are doing nothing but holding you back remain in your life. If someone is wasting your time they don’t deserve to be in your presence. Life is too short to spend it letting people walk all over you.
21. Keep in mind that sometimes things get worse before they get better.
Sometimes in this world, you have to go through more pain to get to the good moments than you might feel is worth it. This is all part of the universe’s plan. Remember that everything happens for a reason.
22. Control your breaths.
Practice deep breathing. While it might not seem like much the way you breathe can either feed into your stress or making it less prominent. If you’re actively working to calm yourself, breathing techniques will make a big difference.
23. Celebrate your accomplishments no matter how small they are.
You have done more than you might realize in this world. Even the smallest things are worth celebrating. You are much more talented than you could ever imagine, stop and smell the roses every once in a while.
