If you wake up every night around the same time there could be something serious going on within your body. Maybe you haven’t thought much of it just yet but you should be working to figure things out more properly.

Traditional Chinese Medicine claims that our bodies are based on a 24-hour rhythm ‘clock’ and that each two-hour section could be corresponding with a specific organ. This meaning that if you wake at a specific time through the night you could be dealing with some kind of issue with the organ associated with that time. By being brought to consciousness you are also being pushed to figure things out by your body itself.

According to Wild Earth, Acupuncture the times and organs present on the body clock are as follows:

1 AM to 3 AM – Liver

3 AM to 5 AM – Lungs

5 AM to 7 AM – Large Intestine

7 AM to 9 AM – Stomach

9 AM to 11 AM – Spleen

11 AM to 1 PM – Heart

1 PM to 3 PM – Small Intestine

3 PM to 5 PM – Bladder

5 PM – 7 PM – Kidney

7 PM to 9 PM – Peru-Cardium

9 PM to 11 PM – Triple-Burner

11 PM to 1 AM – Gallbladder

You can use this clock to your advantage if you read it well. This reminds us that we are much more in tune with the world around us than we stop to consider. When we are working to better understand this connection we are also working to benefit our own bodies and overall health.

In regards to this body clock Turning Point EACU wrote as follows on their website:

Many people report that they fall asleep easily but wake at the same time in the middle of the night. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you can’t fall back asleep and wake up tired the next day. The concept of an “Organ Clock” in Chinese medicine is a useful tool in understanding why this occurs. In Chinese medicine, energy or qi, moves through the body’s meridians and organs in a 24-hour cycle. Every two hours the qi (or energy) is strongest within a particular organ and its functions within the body. And that’s not all – the body, mind, and emotions are inseparable in Chinese medicine – meaning that if you have a disharmony in your physical body, it is tied to your emotional state. So if you wake up at 3 AM, when Liver energy peaks, you may be suffering from Liver Qi stagnation, which could be related to an unhealthy diet, excess alcohol consumption, unresolved anger or high levels of stress. If you consistently wake at 4 AM – it could be due to an imbalance in your Lungs, which is related to grief and sadness, fatigue, or reduced immune function.

What might your body be trying to tell you regarding how you’re sleeping? For more information on this interesting concept please feel free to check out the video below. Could Chinese medicine have something more to offer you? If you’re waking at a specific time get that organ checked out and then go from there, perhaps there is more to this than you realize.
