Jim Carrey never ceases to amaze with his ability to entertain. While he is quite peculiar and quirky, he is full of wisdom that we can all learn something from.
Carrey first gave this speech back in 2014 in his Commencement Address at the MUM Graduation ceremony. In this speech, he goes over things you might not have ever thought much about and well, even more. He encourages others to think big and really go out of their way to choose love and life over giving in to fear and allowing it to hold them back. This speech might not be that recent but it is packed full of important points that stand even now.
While the specific video I’m including is not the whole speech it is still full of insight. This interpretation was posted on the YouTube Page Absolute Motivation and does exactly that, absolutely motivates others. For those who might not be aware for whatever reason Carrey is a very misunderstood individual. He has battled depression and so much more. He is someone we can both relate to and never truly understand at the same time.
One of my favorite sections of this speech is as follows:
“My soul is not contained within the limits of my body, my body is contained within the limitlessness of my soul. I’ve often said that I wish people could realize all their dreams and wealth and fame so that they can see that it’s not where you’re gonna find your sense of completion. I can tell you from experience the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is, because everything you gain in life will rot, and fall apart, and all that will be left of you is what was in your heart.”
I believe if nothing else you can take something away from that section in itself. Sure, we might think we have everything figured out but the truth is we don’t and we never will. We have lasting effects on the people around us whether we see those effects or not. Life is not as simple or as complicated as we think it is.
If you have the time please feel free to hear these words for yourself in the video below. It is just a little over four minutes long and will bring forth a lot more insight than you might want to admit. Make sure you’re open to the things he is going to say before clicking play. This is a very powerful learning opportunity for each and every one of us.
