A lot of people have trouble with sleep, whether it be difficulty falling asleep, not getting enough sleep, or staying asleep. The longer you suffer from one or more of these things, the more you start to decline a new “normal” for yourself and forget what a healthy sleeping pattern actually looks like.

Waking up at the same time every night without an alarm clock might be a sign that you need to pay attention to. You are a human being with different energies flowing through your body that you might not be aware of.

According to the ancient Chinese Medicine Body Clock, energy runs through a different meridian of your body at different times of the day. These meridians are like channels which send energy to different organs in order to promote health and vitality.

When there is a blockage in these channels, however, energy cannot pass through causing stagnation or a buildup of energy. This can then disturb your sleep and wake you up.

It has happened to all of us, we get into a pattern of waking and sleeping that has us opening our eyes in the middle of the night. The room is dark, but sure enough, the clock reads the same time as it did the night before…. And the night before….and the night before. Why 3:00?

Trouble Sleeping Between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM

This is the time that most people like to go to bed. If you have difficulty’s sleeping during this time it is usually a sign of excess stress and worries from the day. Positive mantras, meditation, or successive muscle tension and relaxation exercises are recommended to help you stress.

According to ancient Chinese medicine, this time frame is the time that the energy meridian of the gallbladder is active. Waking up at this time is usually associated with emotional disappointment. Try and practice unconditional self-acceptance and forgiveness of others. I know that sometimes it can be hard to do both of those things, but it is the first step towards getting yourself back to sleep.

This is the energy meridian associated with the Chinese medicine body clock and the liver. Waking up at this time is associated with the emotions of anger and excess yang energy. Try drinking cold water and taking direct control of the situation that caused you to be angry. Do this and you will begin to rest peacefully throughout the night.

Waking up during this time frame usually has to do with sadness. To help yourself get back to sleep, try slow, deep breathing and express your faith in whatever higher power than you have chosen.

This could also be a sign from the universe that you need to pay attention to the messages being sent to you that are meant to align you with your higher purpose. Whether you believe in it or not, this theory offers fascinating insight to the messages that your body could be sending you.
