I have always felt sorry for December babies, especially those born closest to Christmas because most of them likely get one or the other. However, it recently occurred to me that December babies have an advantage, but not for the reasons you are likely thinking.
Did you know that December babies are the most likely to live to be 105 in comparison to others? While it may sound far-fetched, a number of studies on this came to this conclusion.
In one study published in the Journal of Aging Research, 1,574 people who had lived past 100 were observed in comparison to 10,885 shorter-lived siblings and 1,083 spouses. What they found was that the vast majority of those who lived to be over 100 were born in December.
While this study in particular did not provide any reasons as to why another meta-analysis of 1,749,400 people may have discovered the link. Based on the data, people born in September through December were more likely to be protected from cardiovascular disease, which is a leading cause of death in the states.
On top of that, another survey of 366 college students found that people who are born in December are less likely to complain and less prone to mood swings.
And if that isn’t enough to make all of you December babies shout joy-another bit of research states that December babies are far more likely to become dentists than any group of people.
Now, going back to what I said before about the whole birthday and Christmas being in the same month, because of that, they aren’t always super crazy about their birthdays. A survey conducted by a flower company called Interflora found that most people born in December said they couldn’t care less about their birthday. I have to believe that this is likely because their birthday is so close to Christmas.
