Being kind to yourself is very important. While we often forget to show ourselves the generosity we show others, we should be more willing to do so.
The way you treat yourself can really make or break you depending on how you’re facing the issues before you. If you’re mentally strong, chances are you treat yourself well because you know that your overall wellbeing matters but if you’re beating yourself up, you should probably take the things below to hear and implement them into your everyday life.
Being kind to yourself can be hard to get into the habit of doing but once you really work towards it, you will see serious changes in how you feel and how you handle things as a whole. I for one am always trying to do better and be more focused on self-care. While I do falter here and there, overall I’ve noticed a lot of major differences.
9 Tips That Will Help You Show Yourself More Kindness:
1. Stop letting negative thoughts flow freely.
Negative thoughts are important sometimes but you should not be letting them ruin your life. Knowing when to cut them down can make a big difference in how you feel overall. I know, this is easier said than done but if you work at it, you can do it.
2. Treat yourself how you’d treat someone you care about.
Stop treating yourself as less than a person. You are just as important as the people in your life. Treat yourself how you treat others.
3. Replace critical/negative thoughts with positive/helpful ones.
Stop letting your negative thoughts hold so much power. When you think something toxic counter it with something positive. For instance, if you think about something you don’t like about yourself, take the time to counter that with something you do like about yourself.
4. Focus on the things you’re passionate about more.
When your mind is running rampant, focus on the things you’re passionate about. Doing these things can be a good way to take your mind off of what you’re feeling. Putting your hands into what you’re passionate about can really help improve your mood as well.
5. Change the way you see yourself.
Stop letting your self-image make you hate yourself. Slowly work to change how you see yourself. Rather than beating yourself down all the time, build yourself up.
6. Recognize your toxic self-treatment.
Be more aware of what you’re doing and how it’s affecting you. The toxic things you’re engaging with are not helping you in any way and the sooner you realize that the better. This is a huge step towards moving forward properly.
7. Be more accepting of your own flaws.
We all have flaws. No one on this planet is perfect and we need to be more aware of that. Sure, the grass might look greener on the other side but that doesn’t mean things over there are what you think they are.
8. Give yourself permission to feel things and let them go.
We hold onto negative emotions and things of the sort for far too long. Once you’ve felt something and learned from it, let it go. Holding on will only cause you more pain than it’s worth.
9. Use the word ‘no’ more often.
If you don’t want to do something don’t agree to do it. Stop using the word yes all the time and start using the word no. The more you do this the more you will end up realizing how much more focused on your own growth you will end up being.
