A lot of people think that people who are romantically involved need to have a lot in common, but that’s not necessarily true. Of course, the more you have in common the better but your differences should be celebrated as well.
People who end up together don’t have to be perfect mirror images of one another. You can be very different or quite alike and still get on quite well. Honestly, the differences you have with your partner should be appreciated for a number of reasons. They show that you’re still your own person and make it clear that you’re both bringing different things to the table within reason.
Below I am going to go over some of the differences that we shouldn’t cut short. These are things that really are important to take the time to notice about one another. I know, they might not sound like much, but they’re worth being aware of.
7 Reasons Why You Should Appreciate The Differences You Have With Your Partner:
1. It shows that you’re still your own individual people all the while building a life together.
Just because you’re dating someone doesn’t mean you have to turn into the same people. You can still be yourself and your partner can still be his or herself all the while living a proper life together. When you find love, it shouldn’t completely change who you are.
2. You can learn from them.
We all learn from the people closest to us and from your lover you will learn a lot. While this goes both ways it is important. The differences between the two of you allow for a lot of learning on both ends.
3. It allows you to lean on them when necessary and vice versa.
Your partner may be stronger in some areas than you as you may be as well. This allows you to lean on one another and reach out when something is going on. You’re each other’s support system after all.
4. We’re all at different stages in life, and you can grow together but in your own ways.
Growth happens in different ways for everyone and while you may be in a different stage right now than your partner things catch up quickly. You both can grow together in your own ways through your differences if communication is present. I know, this might sound silly, but it is something that happens all the time.
5. You can help them grow.
If your partner isn’t good with emotions and things of that sort through your presence they can grow. Helping others grow is a wonderful feeling. When the person you love needs you the differences between you don’t feel that important in any sense.
6. We all cope with certain things in our own ways, what works for one person won’t always work for everyone else.
We all go through different things in life and handle them in our own ways. What helps you cope might not work for your partner but you should be glad he or she has a means of coping at all. We are all different and that makes us able to figure out what works for us even more deeply in the end.
7. Seeing them do things they love is exciting.
When you see your partner doing something that you might not be into, but you can tell they are passionate about, it is beautiful. This kind of thing is like nothing else and should be cherished. You will know exactly what I mean when you experience it for yourself.
