Narcissists and sociopaths are very different, yes that is true, but they also have a lot of things in common. The ways in which they manipulate others and how they treat the people they are supposed to care for are a lot more similar than you might think.
For those who do not know, narcissists are people with NPD or narcissistic personality disorder. They usually come with an inflated sense of self-worth and are quite arrogant. They think the world literally revolves around them and nothing that doesn’t have to do with them matters, period.
Sociopaths, on the other hand, are people with antisocial personality disorder. They can show signs of caring and whatnot but are quite manipulative. They lie a lot and for the most part lack empathy. They tend to act quite recklessly and can be very aggressive.
Both of these kinds of people use words to manipulate the people that care for them. They go out of their way to feed into the negativity and break down their partners as quickly as they possibly can. Below I am going to go over some of the lies they will both be more than willing to feed you. Please, if their actions do not match their words don’t trust them.
14 Lies Sociopaths and Narcissists Will Try to Force You To Believe:
1. My exes were always so toxic.
Chances are, you will realize just how toxic this person is after some time passes. You will come to terms with the fact that he or she is much more toxic than any past partner that he or she could have had. Sometimes people act like things are worse than they are for sympathy, that is exactly what sociopaths and narcissists tend to do.
2. I trust you.
He or she doesn’t really trust you. This person is not capable of trusting anymore but his or herself. You will never be trusted.
3. I am so sorry.
This person is never truly sorry for the things he or she does. Perhaps sorry that you found out but even then not so much. They just don’t give a shit.
4. I will change or I have changed.
This person will not change and has not changed. You cannot make someone change, they only say this to make you feel better so that you will stick around. In all reality, nothing ever changes at all.
5. I would never lie to you.
The truth is he or she is always lying to you. You notice these lies but you don’t want to accept them. Don’t let this kind of thing slide.
6. You are my one and only.
This person will say you are the only one but the truth is you are one of many. He or she is only using you until there is nothing left to gain from being with you. Once you aren’t benefiting this person anymore he or she will move on.
7. It will never happen again.
Well, this one is all fine and dandy until it does happen again. He or she might say it won’t but the fact that it has already happened multiple times should be more than enough of an indicator for you. Do not be a doormat.
8. I just want you to be happy.
This person doesn’t want you to be happy. He or she might say that the things he or she is doing are out of love but they are not. If you’re hurting then how could your happiness ever even be considered?
9. I really love you.
This person does not love you. If someone loves you they will show it and you will know it. You won’t need reassurance.
10. You can trust me.
You cannot trust a narcissist or a sociopath. They are not the kinds of people who need to know the things that you won’t tell others. They will use your weaknesses against you. This person is not as kind as he or she may seem.
11. You’re overreacting.
You are not overreacting. You are probably underreacting to be completely honest. These people will tell you that you are making things seem worse than they are to make things seem more your fault than theirs.
12. You will never be anything without me.
You are already something, you are never ‘nothing.’ You are amazing and you do not need this person to continue on existing. Your life is yours to live.
13. I would never cheat on you.
Narcissists and sociopaths are not above cheating. They will if they see it as fit. Don’t ignore the signs.
14. You are never there for me.
You can be there for this person in every possible way and they would still say this. You can only do so much. Do not hurt yourself for the sake of someone else.
