We all go through different things in our lives and as children a lot of problems or issues we face stick with us well into adulthood. While you might not see it at first glance, you could be facing a lot of struggles as an adult because of the things you’ve gone through during your earliest years of life.

Childhood trauma is something that doesn’t just go away. It sticks with us whether we want it to or not. The more we refuse to deal with it, the deeper the problems it causes can end up running.

Below I am going to go over some of the ways that we can use to our own advantage when it comes to healing this childhood trauma. Sure, this is going to be different for each of us but the more we understand what we’re facing the better we can work through it. Whether you were neglected as a child or were involved in some kind of horrible accident, you could still very well be carrying a lot more baggage than you think.

12 Tips That May Help You Heal Some Of Your Childhood Trauma:

1. Work to at least be aware of what happened.

While you might not understand how you’re feeling, you should be able to pinpoint where these feelings are coming from. For some, this is a very hard process, and for others, it is not. It varies from person to person but is the first step in moving forward.

2. Talk about the things that you’ve gone through.

Don’t close yourself off. Talk about the things you’re experiencing and what you’ve gone through that led you to where you are. Your trauma is personal, yes but that doesn’t mean you have no one to turn to. If you must opt for psychiatry, do not hesitate.

3. Allow yourself to feel the things you’re pushing down within.

Do not refuse to feel the emotions that are coming forth. Sure, they may be intense but once you’ve dealt with them properly, you will feel much better. Sadly though, it is going to get worse before it gets better.

4. Be more aware of the issues at hand.

This is something that has been controlling you for a very long time. The more aware you are of it and how it has progressed through the years the better. Stop letting your own personal growth take the backseat in this case.

5. Reclaim control over your own mind.

It might take a lot of time, but you are more than capable of taking back control of your mind. Do not be a victim of the things you’ve gone through. Be a hero that comes out on the other side stronger for what you’ve gone through.

6. Do not give in to the urge to isolate yourself from others.

Life can be hard and sometimes the way we feel about things makes us isolate ourselves. Do not isolate yourself. Let your support group be there for you in the ways you need them to.

7. Cut ties where ties need to be cut depending on what you’ve been through.

If your issues are stemming from or relate back to someone who is still hurting you even now, cut ties. While cutting ties might not be easy there are situations when it is needed. Sometimes it is necessary for moving on and healing.

8. Remember your health is important.

Your health matters, don’t kid yourself otherwise. Take care of your mind as well as your body. Without your body, you wouldn’t be able to exist in this world.

9. Let go when you finally feel like you can.

Once you’ve dealt with things do not hold onto them. Let go in every sense of the word. This will be so much more freeing than you could ever imagine.

10. Cut bad habits out as best you can and work towards implementing good ones.

Bad habits only leave us feeling more and more out of touch. Start replacing bad habits with good ones. You will thank me later, I can promise you that. Even small steps can add up to something huge in the end.

11. Meditate more often.

Meditation is something we talk about a lot here and with good reason. It can really work wonders. Clearing your mind is one of the best ways to relax and can benefit you in enormous ways as you work through the things from your past.

12. Don’t forget to be patient with yourself.

Patience is one of the most important things you can have when diving into your past. You are not defined by the things you’ve gone through. You are what you make of the life before you. Getting where you want to be and healing overall is going to take time.
