Life does not come with any kind of instructions. As we move forward it becomes more and more apparent how hard aligning with our truest paths can be, if you’re struggling please know that you are not alone.
We all get lost from time to time and being aware of this can really make finding yourself a lot easier. There is nothing wrong with wandering for a little while and working through the things that you feel you need to work through. There are tons of reasons why you might be feeling lost and below I am going to go over some of those reasons. While this might not cover everything, it should really put a lot into perspective for you.
12 Reasons Why You May Be Feeling Lost:
1. You are settling in life.
If you are settling in life for any reason, you’re going to feel lost. You are going to wonder what it’s like to really get out there and go for the things you want the most until you either do it, or it’s too late. Don’t wait around until it’s too late.
2. You are squashing your creative side.
Whether you think you’re creative or not, you are. We all have a creative side. You have to learn to channel that creative side and really let it free if you want to align with your truest purpose. You are capable of so much more than you realize.
3. You are not following your heart.
Following your heart is one of the most important things in life. If you do not follow your heart you will end up stuck in a life full of regret. You don’t want to look back ten years from now and wish you had done everything differently. Chasing your dreams is essential for being true to yourself.
4. You are stuck in the past.
This reason is one that reigns true for most people. The past is a very hard pill to swallow but it is one that has to be dealt with. If you are someone who is stuck in the past, of course, you’re not going to know who you are anymore. It’s like outgrowing your kid’s clothes and still trying to make them fit, it’s just not going to work. We all grow and we all change.
5. You focus too much on control.
Control is important but only on a certain level. There are things in life that we will never be able to control and you need to understand that. You cannot make everything fit into the mold that you have chosen, sometimes we have to do and be things that we might not have ever expected. Getting to know the real you will reveal far more than you could ever imagine.
6. You are living a life someone else laid out for you.
While it might feel right to make your mom proud or have your friends cheer you on, if you’re living a life that you did not choose you’re not going to be happy. You don’t have to let other people live their lives through you. They have their own lives to live and you need to be out there doing what makes you, you.
7. You are letting fear win.
When we live our lives we have to do so without limits. If you are forcing yourself into a box for fear of failing or being rejected you are killing your true self. Sure, it might be scary but getting out there in the world and doing what you love is worth it.
8. You are surrounded by toxic people.
If you are surrounding yourself with toxic people you are going to end up struggling to figure out who you are. You will lose sight of the things that matter and end up feeling as if you are trying to be someone you are not. Feeding into that false self will not do you any favors. Cutting ties with these toxic people is the only way to overcome this one.
9. You are not doing what you love to do.
We all have to work jobs that we don’t necessarily like at one point in life or another but that doesn’t mean we have to allow it to continue forever. Working through things like this are important. You can’t sit in that negativity forever. At some point, you have to get up and move forth.
10. You are putting other people’s needs before your own.
While you might love being there for the people you care about, you need to know your limits. You will lose yourself quickly if you refuse to put yourself first. Think of it this way, if you do not take care of yourself you won’t be able to take care of anyone else.
11. You are giving other people’s opinions more power than you should be.
If you are giving the opinions of others power over you and what you end up doing in your life you are allowing other people to make your decisions. You are the only person who is in charge of your life. You should not be squashing yourself for someone else.
12. You have been through something that warped your views of yourself.
When we go through abusive situations or are neglected for long periods of time we lose our sense of self. You, because of your troubles have developed a warped sense of self. This is not something you could have avoided but is something you have to deal with. While it won’t be easy to overcome, you have to address that abuse and move on from it.
Finding yourself is going to require a lot of soul-searching but you can do it. You can be whoever you want to be, if you are willing to take things into your own hands. We are only here for a few short decades and time flies much faster than you might stop to think. Tomorrow could be your last, live each day the way you truly want to.
