For almost every one of us, our journey to find the ‘one,’ begins during adolescence and continues into adulthood. While some of us meet them early on, others spend years in search of this perfect person, not realizing that there isn’t a way to speed up this process and that it will happen when it is meant to happen.

Of course, it is a wonderful moment when we realize we have found them, but wasting our time searching for them can be tedious, to say the least, and heartbreaking at its worst moments.  Oftentimes, this vicious cycle will lead us into one toxic relationship after the other, which only leads to more pain. Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to stay single, because growing into an independent person before meeting that special someone is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can go through.

Staying single is not as horrible as some people make it out to be. If you are surrounded with the right people, being single probably won’t even bother you at all, to be honest. When you’re Cousin, Aunt, Grandma, or whoever else asks why you’re still single at holiday gatherings, if you must explain, tell them you are finding yourself.  Don’t feel awkward telling them that you’d rather be single than forcing yourself to be with someone you aren’t that into. Being single is better than faking a relationship that you aren’t really feeling.

It is better to stay single than be with someone that refuses to put forth the effort you put forth. It is better to just live your life than to wait around for someone to live it with. Why date someone that takes hours to reply to your messages or refuses to be there when you’re upset? Why stick around when someone is always going out of his or her way to make you feel bad and bring you down? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Love will come to you when you least expect it and you can’t pull it out of thin are. You can’t get into something and hope it turns into love later, because love isn’t something that is forged from nothing. You have plenty of time in this life to do all that you could ever dream of and love will make its way into the picture someday. You don’t have to let your world revolve around a relationship.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t explore the dating world if you really want to. I am just saying you can choose to move forward in whatever way you see fit and just because you’re not in a relationship doesn’t make you any less of a person. You were not put on this planet to merely find someone to reproduce with and make babies, chase your dreams and make whatever you want to out of your life.

Be whoever you want to be no matter who that is. This world is too big and too full of so much to explore for you to stay in one place from the first day of your life to the last. You will find your forever person when you are ready, don’t rush it.
