1. You don’t get much sleep, but you also still have lots of energy.
Sometimes people with this kind of disorder end up sleeping very little or being unable to relax but still feel quite rested. They are very energetic even without having gotten the recharge their body should have needed. This is one of the more commonly overlooked signs.
2. You go from one extreme to the next.
Sometimes you may feel very optimistic and on top of the world and other times you may feel like nothing in the world is going right at all. This happens more often than it does with others with you and to a degree where it affects your life as a whole. The more extreme the more aware we should be.
3. You are always distracted and cannot concentrate well.
This disorder can and often does leave those with it quite distracted. You may find that it is increasingly hard to concentrate on specific things. Your mind is always jumping from one thing to the next.
4. Sometimes you’re very impulsive.
Impulsivity and bipolar disorder seem to go hand in hand for many. You may find that you’re much more likely to do things on a whim than most other people. Holding yourself back is nowhere near easy. You just don’t care what consequences you’ll end up having to face.
5. When facing serious highs your thoughts race and you’re restless.
When going through a manic episode you’re much more ‘up’ than you would like to be. You’re restless and your thoughts will not calm themselves at all. You are in a lot of cases also very overconfident.
6. Your lows have you feeling like you have literally no energy at all.
You feel like it’s hard to even force yourself to eat. You have no motivation to do anything at all. It’s like you’re literally no longer yourself.
7. You withdraw from friends and family out of nowhere.
Sometimes when you’re at your low points you literally draw away from other people for no reason at all. You cannot explain why you’re doing it or really understand things overall. Then when your highs come back, you jump back into things as if nothing had changed at all.
8. Nothing really brings you happiness anymore.
The lows that people with bipolar disorder face can have them feeling so extreme that they literally feel no happiness at all. Nothing gives you the contentment you want, and it may feel like it’s tearing you apart. You’re unable to escape from the numbness.
