Science Shows Your Thoughts Can Release Abilities Beyond Normal Limits

The idea that we may be able to heal ourselves through thought alone is something that has been discussed for quite some time now. While this may sound a bit outlandish there is proof of it having actually happened.

The mind healing placebo effect is when someone or a group is given a placebo, and then evaluated to see if the thought of that potentially beneficial ‘drug’ was enough to help them improve. For instance, during a study back in 2010, a team from Harvard gave 40 patients with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) a placebo. Each patient was given a bottle that was actually labeled ‘placebo pills’ and were told that these pills were made of an inert substance that had been proven to help IBS sufferers big time.

Of course, a second group was given no pills at all and served as the control group. Three weeks of taking these placebo pills paid off as those who did take them reported twice as much symptom relief as those who did not take the pills. This meaning the relief those people got from these pills of nothing worked as well as the best IBS medication on the market.

Dr. Mercola even speaks from time to time of how important our state of mind can be on the state of our very immune systems. He says that our minds wield incredible power over our health. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University actually found that those who are under more stress are twice as likely to become sick with a common cold or the flu.

Lissa Rankin during a more recent TEDtalk explained why she now believes in the power of the mind when it comes to healing and the science behind it. After hearing her speak I am going to be thinking about things like this from a new perspective, to say the least. It makes a lot of sense that many in the medical field would be against such knowledge being common for the world since it would potentially cause some people to deter from traditional treatment forms as it is.

Please check out Rankin’s TEDtalk below and let us know what you think about this subject. Do you think positive thinking really can help us heal our bodies or do you think this is a false claim? I guess the only way to know for sure is to give it a try yourself.
