As we enter into the holiday season and 2018 comes to a close, many of us find ourselves looking back at the year and shaking our heads. After all, it was a LONG one. If you feel like 2018 kicked your ass, know that you’re not alone – In fact, numerologists say it’s a widespread experience!

If you’re unfamiliar with the study of numerology, it is the thorough understanding of the energy that is carried by different numbers, and the ways that this energy is able to influence our daily lives. These numbers may appear as dates, phone numbers, addresses, or any other area that numbers appear. Some numerologists will even go as far as associating the English alphabet with numbers, each letter taking on a numerical value, and using this to determine the numerology of things like names.

To better understand the energy associated with a specific year, we must start by breaking the number down into a more workable number, a one-digit number or in special cases like that of master numbers (repetitive numbers), multiple recurring digits. Take the year 2018 and add the digits together: 2+0+1+8 and you will find yourself with the master number 11.

This is an important number, it’s energy a clear indication of the wild, crazy trip we all went on throughout 2018. Why? Master number 11 is associated with the balance between light and dark, happiness and pain, ignorance and enlightenment – it’s a rebellious energy that is known to push the limit in its attempt to open our minds and truly define these opposite forces in our lives. It’s not that 2018 was sent to make our lives difficult, it was sent to help us better understand this balance in the world today. Unfortunately, that isn’t always an easy lesson to learn.

Not only is the number 11 known for its ability to highlight and illuminate the reality of the world that we live in, but it’s also a time of transformation. It encourages us to look deep within, finding our weaknesses and faults and drawing them forward into the spotlight.

There are aspects of your personality that you may have kept hidden for years, working hard to keep them concealed from the rest of the world. It could be that you are ashamed of your faults, that they are reminiscent of times that you have failed in the past, or that you fear the pain you could bring others today if they were to see this side of you. Whatever the reason, there is nothing you desire less than to see these personality traits on display for the world to see.

There is, however, a reason for this incredibly difficult experience. By forcing you to confront these faults and misgivings head on, you have been forced to deal with them. You are required to feel and work through past hurts and propelled forward on your path to self-growth. Sure, it was torture, the kind you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, but when all was said and done, you were a better person for it.

So, while 2018 royally sucked in so many ways, it was also one of the greatest years of our lives. Why? It brought us the necessary experiences to become the person that you are today.
