Sure, Europe has changed a lot in the past 1000 years but just how much is ‘a lot’? Well, now we can see it for ourselves!
Frank Reed from the Centennia Historical Atlas used mapping software to animate over 9,000 border changes throughout about 1000 years. His video gives us a great look into just how drastic some of these changes were in about three minutes. Reed actually got the idea for the Centennia Historical Atlas back in 1990 and the rest all fell into place. The atlas itself is currently used by the Naval Academy and helps students to learn history.
With all of these changes, it is mind-blowing to think more may be on the way in the future. Change is something we cannot avoid it seems and be it drastic or almost unnoticeable these changes are very real. I sure would love to see more of these amazing animated maps!
This video really blew me away. While I did learn about all of these changes back in school during history class, I was never able to see them like this. This truly puts a new perspective on things. Check out the video below and let us know what you think. I, for one, wish my history teacher had shown me this when I was still in school.
