While you might remember to brush your teeth every day not everyone does. Apparently, a lot of men do not brush their teeth often and it’s a serious issue.

I recently came across a post online of someone complaining about her significant other going for days on end without brushing and as disgusting as I felt that was, I assumed it was an isolated thing.  Well, just out of curiosity I decided to look into it and found that apparently, women are much more likely to brush their teeth every day than men and that men really don’t seem to keep up with it for the most part. One survey I found from the Academy of General Dentistry actually noted that men neglecting their oral health is a serious issue in the world today.

Rosemandental.com posted as follows in regards to men and women having different oral habits:

While both men and women report that a great smile is one of the first things they notice about a potential dating partner, women apparently take that more seriously than men.

A study published in the April 2011 issue of the Journal of Periodontology showed that women are more proactive about teeth and gum maintenance than their male counterparts. Women are twice as likely to have been for a recent dental checkup (in the past year) and were proactive in scheduling recommended follow-up treatments. These healthy habits resulted in far lower incidence of common periodontal disease indicators, such as plaque, calculus, and bleeding gums.

The NIH (National Institute of Health) actually found that women are much better at remembering to and following through with brushing daily. When following about 200 students in college they found that seventy-five percent brushed twice a day and that most of the students of that percentage were females. While men in the US are bad about this, men in the UK are as well and seem to be even worse off. In the UK there are about seven million adults failing to brush their teeth daily.

Brushing daily is extremely important and if you are failing to do so whether you are male or female, you really need to work on it. Not only does forgetting to brush or merely neglecting to make your breath smell terrible, but it also damages your oral health. I guess if you have any men in your life you should try to remind them to keep those pearly whites, pearly white.
