McDonald’s Employee Fired After His Photo of Filthy Ice Cream Machine Goes Viral

A Mcdonald’s employee claims to have been fired after posting a chilling photo of the ice cream machine in the restaurant he worked in. The photos he tweeted went viral and caused quite the internet backlash against the fast food chain, have you seen this?

According to Huffington Post ‘Nick’ says that store managers are supposed to clean the ice cream machine at the location in which he worked. (He claims to have been working at one of the two Laplace, Louisianna locations.) His photo showed the ice cream machine’s drip tray coated in grime and icky sticky material. He says that in his time working there from March until recently he has never noticed them cleaning it, not even once.

His tweet reads as follows:

“This came out of McDonald’s ice cream machine in case y’all were wondering…”

Nick told Huffington Post that this was just one of many sanitary issues he has noticed over his time working there. He said sometimes his coworkers would even drop food, pick it up, put it back on the bun, and send it out. He recalls having noticed this happen on more than one occasion. Of course, he didn’t stop at the ice cream machine. He also posted several images of the food before it was cooked in its frozen state.

His tweet reads as follows:

“Since I’m exposing McDonald’s I might as well show y’all what y’all really eating… fresh out the freezer.”

Of course, there were people complaining on his thread about how McDonald’s is not at fault for this and it was because of the employees ‘laziness.’ Nick, however, was quick to shut them up with his response. He thinks in a way that we should all think, read his rebuttal tweet below.

According to the Department of Health records for Nick’s area, in 2015 one location in particular of the two had three ‘critical corrected’ infractions. These infractions included cross contamination of ready to eat food and raw as well as unclean surfaces and utensils. Huffington Post requested comment from McDonald’s on the viral image posted but the company did not respond. That being said McDonald’s is one of the many massive companies with many franchise locations. The corporation itself is not directly in charge of the operations of each and every restaurant that has their name on it.

This incident will, of course, make those of us who care think twice before visiting McDonald’s or any other chain for that matter. A year and a half long Dateline investigation of ten of the top fast food chains in the country examined 100 restaurants from each chain (a total of 1,000 restaurants) and found that the 100 McDonalds locations they looked at came in with a total of 136 critical violations. Some of these locations didn’t even have a certified and trained food handler on the job, this being something required by law in a good many states. That being said McDonald’s in this investigation showed to have fewer violations than Subway or KFC.

In the end, the choice of whether to eat at one of these fast food chains is up to you but we hope you will take things like this into consideration. Your health matters and the sanitation of each restaurant really is important. No one wants a burger that has already touched the floor everyone has been walking on and ice cream machines should be cleaned regularly.
