Yes, Jim Carrey is making headlines again. He has recently made some quite interesting Tweets and everyone needs to know about them.
Carrey tweeted that he intends to dump his Facebook page as well as his Facebook stock because he believes strongly that the social network itself has profited from Russian interference with the United States most recent presidential election. Now, for those who do not know, Facebook testified to Congress back in October that Russian backed content did in-fact reach as many as 126 million Americans through its network during and after the election. This making his claims all the more substantial.
He tweeted as follows:
“I’m dumping my @Facebook stock and deleting my page because @Facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it. I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same #unfriendfacebook”
Now, along with this tweet went a photo with Carrey’s drawing of Zuckerberg as well as a dislike hand and the word “Fakebook” written across it. He also posted the same on his Facebook page. You can see the two posts below, one being a screenshot of his page as his Facebook page was taken down the evening after he made these posts.

Carrey did not mention how many shares he owned but did speak with CNBC after his posts. He said as follows:
“We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms.”
“This easy access has to be more responsibly handled. What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed. What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience.”
“For a long time, American enjoyed a geographical advantage in the world with oceans on both sides to protect it,”
“Now, social media has created cyber-bridges over which those who do not have our best interest in mind can cross and we are allowing it. No wall is going to protect us from that.”
What do you think about all of this? Is ridding ourselves of Facebook going to change things? Feel free to check out the video below for more. Is Carrey right for cutting ties or do you see no issue?
