There are tons of extreme situations during which a face mask/filter would be needed but sadly most people don’t have access to them ‘in the moment’ unless they’re really prepared. That having been said as technology becomes more and more creative things like ‘The Emergency Bra’ are becoming accessible and affordable.

This emergency bra works not only to hold your boobs up but can also be used as an emergency respirator device for 2 people in situations where it’s needed. According to the eBra website, it allows for tight fixation and full coverage. This bra according to NY Daily News, can be bought for roughly 30 bucks at and was created by Dr. Elena Bodnar. Bodnar claims that she was inspired by the Chernobyl nuclear accident as she was born in Ukraine.

Bodnar told Fox News that you have to be prepared at all times when it comes to this kind of thing because you never know what could happen next. While it might sound silly to use a bra as a mask, if it saves your life then well, it saves your life. With so many different disasters that could stem forth in the world today, perhaps we should be safe rather than sorry. Considering this bra looks like any other bra, it doesn’t take away from what a bra is supposed to do making it quite useable and still stylish as a whole.

While the Emergency Bra was developed and created back in 2010 it began gaining more and more attention around 2015 and again now as we move into the new decade seems to be a topic some are speaking on once again. When it comes to interesting inventions this one sure is quite mind-blowing. Sure, it might not be something everyone wants to buy but it depending on the situation could save lives.

Racked wrote as follows about the Emergency Bra back in 2018:

Called the EBbra for short, the garment can be worn like any other bra, but the two cups are detachable and the body of the bra includes a radiation sensor.

“In case of emergency, it can be quickly and easily converted into two face masks without removing any clothes,” the EBbra website states. “In case of emergency, where no specialized respiratory devices are available, it can decrease the inhalation of harmful airborne particles. Because the Emergency Bra masks can be securely fixed to the head, it frees a survivor’s hands to keep balance while running and removing objects on the way out of danger.”

“Ladies and gentlemen isn’t it wonderful that women have two breasts, not just one,” Bodnar joked during her Ig Nobel acceptance speech. “We can save not only our own life but also the life of a man of our choice next to us.”

While there is not currently a male equivalent perhaps something of the sort may be created in the future. Would you use a bra that could also double as this kind of emergency mask? I know plenty of people who would. For more information on this creative invention please check out the video below.
