With approximately 16.1 million American adults affected by depression in any given year, it’s an experience that is far more common than you may realize. Life with depression can mean many different things, but the one common denominator is the fact that it complicates our lives.

While treatment often requires professional assistance, there are ways to manage and deal with your disorder on a daily basis.

Whether you are diagnosed or not, life with depression is anything but easy. Mental illness has the ability to impact every area of our lives including our career, relationships, and more. If left to fester and take over our lives, it can tear us down and destroy everything that brings us joy in our lives. Hobbies and interests that once triggered passion and happiness are now meaningless as we find ourselves feeling lost and numb.

The good news is that depression is manageable. As Steven D. Hollon, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and depressions researcher at Vanderbilt University explained, “Depression isn’t a natural consequence of living life; it’s an aberration that doesn’t have to be tolerated.” The management of your depression symptoms, however, are highly individual, influenced by your personality.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You are driven in life by an internal fire, a passion for life that most can’t even begin to understand.
