Intuition is something we all have on some level and yet for some reason, we don’t often pay much attention to it. By definition, our intuition is our direct perception of truth or a keen and quick insight. However, I would argue that it is much more than that.

Intuition is the thing that keeps us grounded. It makes us aware when something bad is going to happen. That gut feeling you get, that is your intuition. Your intuition is that thought in the back of your mind that tells you someone has bad intentions or even that you shouldn’t be doing what you are doing. It is your fight or flight and essentially it helps keep you alive.

Sometimes rationality is overrated. That inner voice you have should be something you do your best to listen to. Our intuition is our instinct, it is a sensation that makes us more aware and gives us the ability to know things we wouldn’t otherwise. Can you recall a situation where your intuition saved you? I know I can think of a few.

“Our bodies have five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing. But not to be overlooked are the senses of our souls: intuition, peace, foresight, trust, empathy. The differences between people lie in their use of these senses; most people don’t know anything about the inner senses while a few people rely on them just as they rely on their physical senses, and in fact probably even more.”
― C. JoyBell C.

In life, we need both intuition and reason to make the best decisions we possibly can. Trusting in ourselves can be hard but if we don’t who will? Intuition can and will in most cases enhance your decision-making skills. If you know how to use your intuition wisely everything will go over well. But if you choose to ignore it and never give it the time of day eventually it will stop talking to you.

I like to think of my intuition as a light on my shoulder telling me when I need to be on edge. While some people’s intuition can be a little over worrisome when your intuition is operating correctly it can protect you in ways you might not imagine. We need our intuition and to be honest if you really think about it, it is a very high form of intelligence. Your inner voice always has your best interests at heart.
