Food Poisoning Expert Reveals The 6 Things He Will Never Eat

Food poisoning attorney Bill Marler went viral a few years ago with a list of foods he refuses to eat. Because he has seen cases of well… everything he is without a doubt someone we should be following when it comes to this kind of thing.

Before we get into Marler we should go over foodborne illness a little bit. Foodborne illness is basically ‘food poisoning’; however, some of these foodborne illnesses can literally KILL you or your children. Some of the more major foodborne illnesses include salmonella, norovirus, E. coli, Listeria, and clostridium perfringens.

Marler has done his part in representing clients in easily some of the biggest food safety cases in history. A viral article of the lists he refuses to eat went viral back in 2016 and is still viral in modern times for good reason. This is something I feel is important to touch on and so, we will.

According to Food Poisoning Information, the six foods he would never eat and what he has to say on them are as follows:

Unpasteurized ‘raw’ milk and packaged juices

“There’s no benefit big enough to take away the risk of drinking products that can be made safe by pasteurization,”

Raw sprouts

“There have been too many outbreaks to not pay attention to the risk of sprout contamination,”

Meat that is not well done

“If it’s not cooked thoroughly to 160°F throughout, it can cause poisoning by E. coli and salmonella and other bacterial illnesses.”

Prewashed/precut vegetables or fruit

“Convenience is great but sometimes I think it isn’t worth the risk.”

Raw oysters and other shellfish

“If there are bacteria in the water it’ll get into their system, and if you eat it you could have trouble. I’ve seen a lot more of that over the last five years than I saw in the last 20 years. It’s simply not worth the risk.”

Raw or undercooked eggs

“I think the risk of egg contamination is much lower today than it was 20 years ago for salmonella, but I still eat my eggs well-cooked,”

These all being things many people eat on a daily basis. Perhaps you are even someone who partakes in the ingestion of one or more of these things? While Marler is strict about his own diet I guess in the end if you want to eat these things you will but you should always take the time to become more informed on what you may be putting into your body.

There are so many things lurking in our foods that we do not often notice. Foodborne illness is a very serious issue and it is one that needs more awareness brought to it.
