Sure, we hear about celebrities doing good things all the time but this small response is something that most people would have overlooked. While coping with depression can be a very hard thing to do being able to get through it means the world to everyone.

On the /r/bodybuilding subreddit, Arnold seems to be kind of popular. He talking to people quite frequently and gives them advice. One user wrote to him on this forum in the hopes of getting a mere ‘get off your ass’ from Schwarzenegger but was given so much more. Schwarzenegger’s message was more than enough to get anyone motivated.

The redditor wrote to him as follows:

“I know this is pandering but, I’ve been depressed for months and haven’t hit the gym during that time.

Mr. Schwarzenegger, can you please tell me to get off my lazy ass and hit the gym? I swear to everything I hold dear that I will snap out of it and go.”

I am sure this person was not expecting anything like the response he got if any response at all but Arnold really went above and beyond. Arnie replied to his fan without telling him to snap out of being lazy. He approached him with compassion and gave him the best possible advice.

Arnold’s response was as follows:

“I’m not going to be that hard on you. Please don’t be that hard on yourself. We all go through challenges, we all go through failure. Sometimes life is a workout. But the key thing is you get up. Just move a little. Roll out of bed and do some pushups or go for a walk. Just do something. One step at a time, I hope you feel better and get back to the gym. But don’t beat yourself up, because that’s useless talk. It doesn’t get you closer to the gym. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. Good luck.”

This was, of course, met with a response from the redditor saying he had jumped out of bed and was headed to the gym. Arnie proving how much he really cared actually even took the time to ask him how he was doing later on that day. Arnold’s willingness to check back in on the redditor and really make sure he was alright speaks volumes. It seems there is a lot that can be learned from good ole Schwarzenegger.

Sometimes approaching people the way they ask you to is fine but putting thought into something and applying it to your life makes it all the more special. Arnold even continued in this by posting a video talking about how glad he was that his newfound buddy had gotten up and was doing better. This just shows that no matter who you are, you can still show compassion to others.
