Sure, cheating is never okay and regardless of the reasons, that isn’t going to change but that doesn’t mean that those who do it don’t have their ‘reasons.’ If you’ve ever been cheated on or cheated in a relationship you know that while it is terrible, it’s something that no one can completely protect themselves from regardless of how well they know the people closest to them.

I recently came across some results covering a survey that really put things into perspective. This survey was carried out by Superdrug Online Doctor and polled in over two thousand Americans and Europeans. This survey covered why men cheat and why women cheat and highlighted the different reasons that make each one unique in its own ways.

In this survey, people were asked why they cheated in their relationships and it was found that women both in the US and the UK had the same top answer all around. This being that their number one reason for cheating was that they felt they were not getting enough attention in their relationships/they felt neglected. Below I am going to go over the top five of each gender and location when it comes to reasons for cheating and from there we will dive in further.

Top 5 reasons women cheated according to this survey:

European Women –

1. My partner stopped paying attention to me.

2. The other person was really hot.

3. I was having doubts about my relationship.

4. The other person was really there for me.

5. I needed to feel beautiful.

American Women –

1. My partner stopped paying attention to me.

2. The other person was really there for me.

3. I was having doubts about my relationship.

4. The other person was really hot.

5. I was bored.

Top 5 reasons why men cheated according to this survey:

European Men –

1. The other person was really hot.

2. The other person was really there for me.

3. My partner and I weren’t having sex.

4. I was bored.

5. My partner stopped paying attention to me.

American Men –

1. The other person was really hot.

2. People were hitting on me.

3. I was having doubts about my relationship.

4. My partner and I weren’t having sex.

5. My partner stopped paying attention to me.

While some of these are the same others are very different. That being said, according to this survey as well it seems more than half of both those in the US and in the UK felt guilty about having cheated. It is noted that over 70 percent said if they could take it back they would.

You can click here to see the results of this survey and more on what each constituted as cheating as well. It seems men focus more on the physical act of cheating while women were much more emotionally ingrained in their cheating. This meaning that there are some very clear cut differences between men and women in that aspect.

How do you feel about cheating? Would you leave your partner if he or she cheated on you or would their reasoning be considered? Is cheating as terrible as we make it out to be or is there more to it than we allow to be seen?
