While it is in our nature to question others for some reason we tend to shut that part of ourselves down. When you’re moving through this world you need to be more willing to pick and choose who gets to be in your life even if it is a bit complicated to face.

When we look for people to surround ourselves with we need to ensure those people are the right kinds of people. We should work to surround ourselves with nothing but positive people who are going to drive us more towards success. We need those we can trust to be within our inner circle above all else and those we cannot trust do not deserve a place at the table.

Sure, in this day and age figuring out who you can trust and who you cannot trust is quite hard but if you look for the following things, you should be able to tell quite quickly. These things are very important and should always be considered when it comes to the connections you’re making. Don’t just give someone your attention, make them earn it.

9 Things You Should Look For In Others:

1. They are unapologetically themselves above all else.

When it comes to the people who deserve a place in our lives we need to be sure they’re authentic. If they’re just putting on a show and refusing to show us their true colors they aren’t worth our time. The truer to their soul a person is the more prominent their place in our lives should be.

2. They are honest with you.

People who are worthy of our trust will not sugar coat things. They will always say the things we need to hear rather than the things we want to hear. You don’t have to wonder if the words they’re speaking are lies or not.

3. They bring out the best in you.

These people are always promoting positivity. When you’re down and out they will be there to cheer you up. While it might not always seem like it they bring out the best in you and make you feel more ‘yourself.’ You don’t have to hide anything from them.

4. They are always willing to speak their minds.

The people we should place our trust in are not going to filter themselves for anyone. Rather than just being honest with you they are honest people overall. When something pops into their head and they want to say it, they say it. You won’t be able to run all over them, period.

5. They do not give you a bad feeling.

When someone is worth your time you’re not going to get that bad gut feeling around them. You’re going to feel more secure and safe in their company. The connection will be quite apparent even from the get-go.

6. They respect the boundaries of others.

The people you should be spending your time with will not cross your boundaries. They are not going to try and trick you into doing things you do not want to do and when you say no they listen. They do not push you in the ways other people will try to.

7. They care about your feelings.

These people care about how you’re feeling and how the things they are doing might affect you. Whether you’re just friends or full-blown lovers they don’t want to hurt you. They have your best interest at heart.

8. They are driven and motivated in their own ways.

People who are worth our time have their own goals and dreams. They work hard and try to do all they can. They come with their own motivations and do not work to leave us stagnant. While we all fall short sometimes, these people are capable of helping you pick yourself back up and vice versa.

9. They are not ‘too good’ to apologize or own up to their mistakes.

You should never allow someone in your life that doesn’t know how to say ‘I’m sorry’ when it’s needed. People who know how to apologize and own up to their mistakes will be much more positive connections overall and help you grow as a person. They are people who know when they have messed up and are willing to do what it takes to make things better.
