“The older I grow, the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom.”
― H.L. Mencken
For some reason, a lot of people assume that ‘old age’ brings wisdom but that is not true. You can be old and immature or young and wise, because your age does not define you. We are all learning and we all learn at our own pace. If you notice the following things in yourself you are doing more than just aging, you are truly maturing.
8 Things That Prove You Are Maturing Rather than Merely Aging:
Patience is something not very many people seem to have these days. You know that nothing in life comes quickly. You do not get ahead of yourself and know that slowing down from time to time is important.
Change is something we cannot stop. It is inevitable, to say the least. You know this and are as open as you can be to change.
3. You do not expect too much from others anymore.
You know now that expecting too much from those around you. You know that sometimes you have to just get things done on your own and you are fine with that. You know that everyone is dealing with their own things in life.
Self-love is one of the hardest things in life to accomplish. You are able to accept yourself for who you are. No one can bring you down.
5. You listen to others more.
You are able to listen to those around you when they need you to. Before you just let things go in one ear and out the other, but now you are much better at paying attention. Not everyone is able to properly develop this skill.
6. You know that we never stop learning.
We never stop learning in life and a lot of people lose track of this. They believe that because they are now older they know everything but that is not the case. Even on our deathbeds, there is still much for us to learn.
7. You help others as best you can within reason.
You are always there for those you consider family. You give freely and never expect anything in return. With that being said, you are not one to be taken advantage of.
You have learned that true happiness does not come from being in a relationship it comes from within. Only you can make yourself truly happy. This is also something that people tend to struggle with accepting.
Maturing is not as easy as it sounds. It takes a lot to be able to grow from the inside rather than merely the outside. Maturity does not always come with ‘old age.’
