According to Psychology Today, over 40% of people today have or will experience the agonizing pain of being lonely. And while loneliness may be downplayed in our society, it just so happens that loneliness can have a major impact on our overall well-being.

In fact, many could argue that in loneliness, we are able to find out the true core of our nature. And if you think about it, it makes sense. When you are lonely you are constantly inside your head, giving you ample time to reflect, and create meaningful change in your life.

You can seer with clarity.

It is during times of struggle that we are able to see things from a new light. And this is a good thing in many ways, as it teaches us the valuable lesson associated with pain through struggle.

You learn that loneliness doesn’t mean people aren’t around.

It’s a common misconception that in order for you to be lonely there has to be a lack of people in your life. And that simply isn’t true. Actually, many people who are lonely are surrounded by people.

Loneliness will put you to the test.

Times of loneliness with either make or break you. Don’t let it break you down, instead use the time you have to learn something new, or hone in on something you have wanted to understand. At the very least, you will learn that you can be alone. And eventually you may see that it isn’t so bad.

Being lonely will teach you how to find the right relationships.

When you are lonely, it may often be because you haven’t been around people that make you feel wanted. Due to this, you may find that you begin to seek friendships and relationships that help you to overcome loneliness.

It allows you to dive within.

Time alone is contemplation time, and while it can be daunting to be faced with your true inner workings, and your true nature. You may even discover a purpose that you have but never realize before.

It forces you to face the past.

It’s hard to remember times or traumas from our past, but it is necessary. During the lonely times in life, we may have to revisit past hardship, but this is what will help us overcome those issues.

It will teach you about gratitude.

While being lonely may seem like the end of the world right now, eventually through your loneliness you will realize that you have a lot to be grateful for.
