This image brings to light a tough reality that is hard to handle. A pregnant mother due any day now, sleeping on the sidewalk with her 2-year-old daughter asleep on her chest.
A police officer in Little Rock Arkansas named Tommy Norman found them while on patrol. He said that he passed the sidewalk and noticed a baby stroller soon after realizing there was a lady with her child asleep. He says this is something he has never seen before. The lady asleep on the sidewalk’s name was Jessica and it was apparent she was in need of help.
He woke them up and told them that he wanted to help them, he took Jessica and her daughter Kayla to a hotel and then shared their story on his Instagram. This went viral and people began showing support from all over. Many people sent food and baby supplies while others actually came to the hotel room to lend Jessica a helping hand. Georgia Mjartan, Executive Directer of Our House told KTHV that there are actually easily 21,000 homeless children in the state of Arkansas every year. She said that giving the homeless just a few bucks is helpful but doesn’t change their lives. They need something much more than that.
After my coffee stop i begin making my early morning rounds. As I enter into the neighborhoods I see this. I initially passed because I thought I was seeing things. This is not a post asking for assistance. It’s an image I decided to share to show that real life stories exist in communities across the world. Heartbreaking yes but hopefully an image that encourages others to get out & make a difference in their communities. ??
Jessica and Kayla are grateful to have a place to lay their heads at night for now and Jessica is using her time wisely to put in job applications and hopefully get her life back on track. She is expecting her baby boy any day now as mentioned above and plans to call him Xavier. People like Officer Norman make a huge impact in this world. He has forever changed this family for the better and helped them in ways most people would not. For more information on this please take the time to watch the video below.
Would you have done what officer Norman did or would you have passed the family by? Things like this restore my faith in humanity little by little. This is a truly inspirational story.
